The Birth Of Soul Caught Live
Advantages: James Brown before he went global Disadvantages: Very dated, none of his big hits
...by "critics" as the best live album of all time, but for me parts of Rattle And Hum by U2 and Bob Marley's Live walk all over it.
Read on for the tracks.
THE TRACKS
--------------------
1. Introduction To James Brown
A very glitzy, showbiz opening as the compare introduces James Brown (and The Famous Flames, his then backing group). After announcing each song the band will play and Brown will sing, a cymbal and one note trumpet ring sound, followed ... ...can tell this is authentic live stuff because occasionaly a word or two becomes inaudible as Brown - presumably - steps away from the mic to perform a little dance. This is soulful, frenetic stuff in all under two minutes.
5. I Dont Mind
Going back to the slow pace of Try Me this track is unique on this album because the crowd actually sit back and listen to the soulful outpouring of Brown and his more than able backing singers. Some nice bluesy ...

out of sight
Advantages: some all time classics Disadvantages: a few dud tracks, no live songs

there are 18 tracks here in total making this album good value for money. some of the songs dont quite live up to the same high standards as the songs mentioned before, but the song retains ... ...that there are no examples of Brown's legendary live performances here. Browns band is generally very tight. the inlay includes a fairly detailed biography and some good photos of brown in his younger years.
overall this is a good album with some genuinely great tracks, there are a few weak links but it doesnt detract from the overall quality of the music. ...

THE GODFATHER OF SOUL
Advantages: Contains his most well-known classics Disadvantages: None!
Like Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder, James Brown possessed the uncanny ability of having a distinguished, instantly recognisable and unique vocal style of his own. In his case, his primal vocal delivery was capable of such immense and impressive volume and power that was purely adrenalin-driven. Visually, James Brown was a larger-than-life figure from his wildly over-the-top slicked hairdo to his acrobatic, athletic-like ... ...effortlessly conveyed such raw and passionate energy both on stage and on record. He quickly became one of the giants and most important names in black music history. He has apparently disputed his birth on a number of occasions for some unknown reason though it is most commonly believed to be somewhere in Georgia, USA. James was certainly no stranger to poverty and had a struggling upbringing and whilst still at school, he worked constantly as a ...

James Brown - The Godfather
Advantages: Pure James Brown Disadvantages: only 1 disc
This is a CD containing 20 of James Brown's best hits. It has songs ranging from Get Up Offa That Thing to Papa's Got A Brand New Bag, from It's a Man's Man's Man's World to Living In America. The complete track listing is below.
Before i bought this CD i'd only heard of Papa's Got A Brand New Bag (bad for a DJ i know) by James Brown's but ever since i bought it i can't get enough of him. It has to be the Funk mix with the soul that does it for ... ...up from some supermarket for a pittence of what it should have been. Only £3.50 ish i think. Is well worth the £10 a high street shop would charge. I believe it is now possible to get pretty cheap copies of the net.
If you love anything James has done you'll love this CD. Highly Recommended. The track list is as follows:
Papa's Got a Brand New Bag
I Got You (I Feel Good)
It's A Man's Man's Man's World
Please Please Please
Think
Night Train

Naaah! Funk Beef!
Advantages: A couple of big tunes Disadvantages: Inconsistent
Bringing what was their seventh album under this name, Funkadelic released their seventh album in 1975. The George Clinton-led Funk band (who also went under Parliament for their more Soul-based work) came with “Let’s Take It To The Stage” with a line-up that included Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell , Fuzzy Haskins and most of the other regulars. 1. “Good To Your Earhole” They get the album underway with something expectedly strong as you find that ... ...and knew exactly what they were capable of as an act and so they lead the way nicely with some lively Funk material that makes the most of all aspects of the band and their unity that makes for such impressive work (that was seen to lead the way for all others working in this genre at the time). **Five Stars** 2. “Better By The Pound” With this one you see that you get Boogie Mosson laying down a hard groove on the bass to take them in and take them ...
