Advantages: its prince Disadvantages: none
Remember the song 'Manic Monday' by the Bangles? What about 'How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore' by Alicia Keys? The legend Prince wrote those songs. And everyone knows 'Nothing Compares 2 U' by Sinead O'Connor. Another Prince song. I think this proves what an amazing songwriter he is, and on 'Diamonds and Pearls' he doesn't fail to do this again.
The 1991 album is one of my favourites; it uses a mixture of funk and pop music to create Princes unique ... ...that features the 'New Power Generation' with talented singer Rosie Gaines, and others in the band who feature on the album singing, rapping and 'Diamonds and Pearls' wouldn't be the same without them. They help to create the unique and colourful sound of this album.
There is no doubt that the group of people that created this album are very talented. From the voice of Rosie Gaines (Prince himself states 'just listen to Rosie sing and try not to ...

the beginning of the end...
Advantages: some excellent different sounding songs Disadvantages: some excessiveness ruins otherwise good songs
this album is the start of a long stream of prince albums designed to fulfill the remainder of his contract with warner brothers and not coincedentally is the first prince album i have heard (although some say it started with diamonds and pearls) that has more than one or two unmemorable songs.
the whole album is grey in colour and while this shouldnt put anyone off the album it is quite ironic as the album at times is quite generic.
the album ... ...to bother explaining what its about! but it is quite filthy at times! this is actually a good song and the first four, maybe five minutes are enjoyable. however, it lasts nearly twelve minutes and for no good reason really, other than to give the horns a solo. this ruins a perfectly good song and many times i have listened to this song and sort of 'woke up' nearly ten minutes later and think is this still playing?
the second song is similar to 'come' ...

A Controversial Review
Advantages: Um...the title track? Disadvantages: 6 out of 8 tracks are pretty poor
Before those of you who read my reviews start to think I'm totally biased when it comes to Prince, here's a little surprise. I do not like the album Controversy.
The title track is a good song, although perhaps a little dated now, and at over seven minutes, a bit long.
"Do Me Baby" is also worth a listen - it's a nice ballad.
That's where my positive comments stop, I'm afraid. I keep this CD purely because it's part of the collection. It doesn't ...

Little Purple Man
Advantages: It's Prince Disadvantages: none what so ever!
This was the album that shot Prince into the big time and into my heart all because of one of the century's most played songs ~ the excellent '1999', which is still as fresh as the day it was born. This album is truly brilliant and showed the first real signs that Prince was going to become a megastar, the CD goes from the funky 'Delirious' to the sophisticated 'Something In The Water' and of course everybody knows 'Little Red Corvette. 'Lady Cab ... ...me go all weak at the knees, phew! Prince shows a stunning display of raw talent in this album, not wallowing indulgence which he has been accused of doing. If you're listening to '1999' there is something about the 1980's that pops up every time, really experimental kind of funk and hip-hop. But I reckon all of his songs are equally addictive. It's definitely among Prince's best work and is a must for any record collection. Buy it NOW!!!! ...

Psychedelic Sounds
Advantages: Varied tunes Disadvantages: Too weird for some
Around the World in a Day is yet another different type of album by Prince, the man of many faces.
This album followed Purple Rain and everyone was expecting more of the same. How wrong they were. This was the point of his career where he was at the top; the easy thing would've been to produce another Purple Rainesque album and everyone would've gone home happy. Oh no, that was too easy for Prince.
What he actually came up with was a mixture of ... ...tunes.
The album still managed to produce a fantastic single in 'Raspberry Beret' but did little to enhance Prince's reputation on the majority of the record buying public.
Special mention should be made of 'Paisley Park', the real hippy sounding tune of the album, 'The Ladder', a gospelly epic song that only Prince could seem to get away with and the hauntingly weird yet beautiful 'Condition of the Heart'.
This isn't Purple Rain II but a new ...
