Advantages: Good rhythms to do the housework to, some excellent songs Disadvantages: Some songs will appeal to some and not to others.
Housework Songs is a double CD compilation album. The idea is that these songs are all suitable to listen to whilst doing the housework so easing the load and making the dutiful chores a little more enjoyable. On the front cover is a picture of a woman (rather sexist, men do the housework too! At least they do in my house!) singing into her vacuum cleaner. There are 41 songs on the album and there is a good mixture with something for everyone. We ... ...can't stop singing along. Housework is definetly not one of my favourite pastimes but listening to this CD makes it more enjoyable and helps pass the time. I would recommend it if you like to listen to music while you work or just want a CD of some great songs to listen to at anytime.

We have songs from the 1960s including "Pretty Woman", and "Respect", in the 1970s we have "You Sexy Thing" and "American Pie", the 1980s gives us "Fame" and "I Think We're Alone Now", the 1990s gives us "Over My Shoulder"and "Moving on Up" then from the 2000s we have "Spinning Around" and "The Closest Thing To Crazy."
I love this album it has such a fantastic mix of songs, all of which I had heard previously and many of which were favourites when I was younger. There are some definite 80s classics in there. Most of the songs have very catchy beats that get you moving and you can't stop singing along. Housework is definetly not one of my favourite pastimes but listening to this CD makes it more enjoyable and helps pass the time. I would recommend it if you like to listen to music while you work or just want a CD of some great songs to listen to at anytime.

The Songs ------------------
I think there is a song for every household task so here goes, after this your house will be gleaming and you will have burned off a few calories dancing and singing while you work.
CD 1 --------------------------
Queen - I Want To Break Free - Sing along to this song whilst you are cleaning the kitchen sink "I want to break from my life", you won't escape the job but at least it will make it a little more pleasant.
Ronan Keating - Life Is A Rollercoaster - Here is one for all those ex-Boyzone fans (yes I am one!). Time to run up and down the stairs whilst polishing the banister singing in your best Irish accent "Life is a rollercoaster just got to ride it, all night long." Well it won't take all night to get the housework done with this CD.
Bangles - Manic Monday - We all have a manic Monday now again so listen to this one, the chore for this song is making the bed whilst you sing "These are the days when you wish your bed was already made". Well it will be by the time you finish singing this song.
Aretha Franklin - Respect - "R E S P E C T , find out what it means to me", this is definitely a sing along song and you can sing along while you wash down the skirting boards in your house and wiggle your bum in time to the music!
Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive - "First I was afraid, I was petrified ………go on now go, walk out the door." Well the thing that petrifies me is spiders so this is the song to sing whilst getting rid of those cobwebs. It's a girl power song, so goodbye spiders.
The Foundations - Build Me Up Buttercup - "Why do you build me Buttercup baby just to let me down." Not one of my favourite songs on the album but you can plump up the cushions to build them up whilst you sing this one.
The Monkees - Daydream Believer - Had almost forgot about the Monkees until I listened to this song again. "Cheer up sleepy Jean, oh what can it mean, to a daydream believer and a homecoming queen." Sing along while you scrub clean the hob and dream that you are somewhere else and not in your kitchen.
Roy Orbison - Oh, Pretty Woman - The very first beat on this song gets you moving "Pretty Woman, walking down the street, Pretty woman the kind I'd like to meet." Mop the kitchen floor to this one, dancing around and imagining you are dancing with Richard Gere!
The Beach Boys - Help Me Rhonda - If you are a Beach Boys fan then you'll like this one. Listen to this one whilst making up the packed lunches "I could give you lots of reasons why, you got help me Rhonda, help me get her out of my heart." Well no-one might help you make the lunches but they will be done quicker if you sing along.
Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing - Get into the bathroom get those marigolds on and scrub the bath whilst you sing "I believe in miracles, where you from, you sexy thing."
UB40 feat. Chrissie Hynde - I Got You Babe - Listen to this one whilst you water the plants, if talking to them helps them grow, I'm sure singing makes them grow even more, "I got flowers in the spring, I got you to wear my ring."
Big Mountain - Baby, I Love Your Way - Well this is a slower type of song with a kind of Jamican drumbeat. I think its quite good to do the ironing to, you can sway with the music whilst you iron out those creases, "Oh baby I love your way, every day" I don't love ironing but this makes it a little better.
Madness - It Must Be Love - Well it's a labour of love but someone has to put the dishes into the dishwasher, "I know that its you that I need, to take the blues away."
Spandau Ballet - Gold - Time to put away the clothes away singing "You've got the power to know, you're indestructible" and with this CD you can get any job done.
Cutting Crew - (I Just) Died In Your Arms - Time to dry the dishes and sing along "I just died in your arms tonight, must have been something you said" either that or it was my terrible singing!
Mike And The Mechanics - Over My Shoulder - Another slower song, time to dust down those lampshades and sing "Looking back over my shoulder, I can see that look in your eye, I never dreamed it could be over." And soon it will be over!
Don McLean - American Pie - This is a lively tune so its good for doing the vacuuming (providing you have it on your MP3 player or you wont hear it over the vacuum cleaner). Sing to the dirt "Bye bye Miss American pie, drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry."
Lene Marlin - Sitting Down Here -This song is a reminder its time to get down to the back of the cupboard in the hall and clear it out, "I'm sitting down here, but hey you can't see me, kind of invisible."
Blondie - Sunday Girl - Good one to do some general cleaning as the beat changes, when she sings "Hurry up" you can scrub those cupboards or work surfaces hard. Your kitchen will be gleaming and you'll be finished in no-time!
Mental As Anything - Live It Up - This one you can wash the dishes to, it's a slower song but you can sing along at the same time "Hey you with the sad face, come up to my place and live it up" Your face won't be sad doing the dishes when you've got this CD to sing along to.
Cliff Richard - Wired For Sound - Not everyone is a Cliff fan but this song should get you going this is a good one for cleaning the windows to, wipe in time to the music " AM, FM, I feel so ecstatic!!".
Wings - Silly Love Songs - Apologies to those of you who like the song but it doesn't do much for me. Its just a silly love song!! Still you could dry the dishes to it whilst you sing along, "Love isn't silly, love isn't silly" no it isn't but this song certainly is!
Well done you've made it through CD 1, grab a cup of tea and put your feet up, recharge your batteries then get on with CD 2 and finish the housework.
CD 2 ------------------------
Kylie Minogue - Spinning Around - Grab your gold hotpants and start dancing, you have to listen to this track whilst doing housework which allows you to move so I suggest general tidying up then you can spin around the room whilst putting away things singing "I'm spinning around, move out of my way, I know you feel it cos you like it like this."
Irene Cara - Fame - Grab your leotard and your leg warmers and your duster and polish and start polishing your dining room table. At the same time leap around the room, if you can do the splits and "Baby look at me, and tell me what you see!" Hmm, a mad woman dancing round the room?
Diana Ross - Chain Reaction - Again another song with a good beat, unpack your shopping to this music and the job will be done before you know it. "Get in the middle of a chain reaction………sweet sensation, instant radiation."
The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men - The original version and not the Geri Halliwell version. Well as its raining men the best job to do whilst listening to this song is cleaning the shower and you could hold the shower head and pretend it's a microphone "According to all sources, the streets the place to go…….. Its raining men, Hallelujah!.........I'm going to go out, I'm going to let myself get, absolutely soaking wet."
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun - This is a good one to hang up the washing to just don't dance too madly round the garden or you'll get the neighbours talking. "They just wanna, they just wanna, girls just want to have fun!"
Phil Collins & Philip Bailey - Easy Lover - A slower song so you could do the mending to this one, no unexpected shouts that might make you stab yourself with the sewing needle! "She's the kind of girl you dream of, dream of keeping hold of."
Tina Turner - The Best - You can wash the dishes to this and when the moment takes you hold the washing brush and sing at the top of your voice "You're simply the best, better than all the rest"
Kenny Loggins - Footloose - I love this one and can't listen to it without my feet starting to tap. You really need a feather duster for this one, and "Cut loose, footloose, kick off your Sunday shoes" and dance around the living room dusting as you go.
Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now - This is a trip down memory lane for me because I remember making a dance to this with my friend as we watched Tiffany on Top of the Pops! "We're running just as fast as we can, holding on to one others hands". You could clean the bath to this one.
KC & The Sunshine Band - Give It Up - "Na Na Na Na Na Na Na, baby give it up, give it up, baby give it up!" Clean the inside of your cooker whilst you listen to this one.
M People - Moving On Up - "Just who do you think you are, take it like a man, if that's what you are!" Polish all the mirrors in your house whilst you sing to this tune.
Donna Summer - Love's Unkind - Time to put the washing in the washing machine and sing along, "I'm standing on the outside of the inside where I want to be" but I don't really want to be inside the machine but you want your clothes to be inside.
Erasure - Take A Chance On Me - Erasures version of the Abba classic. There is a slightly mad moment in this song when a Jamican rapper comes on, I think the Abba version is much better. "Honey I'm still free, take a chance on me." Listen to this while you shake the doormat outside to get rid of the dirt.
Spiller (Feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor) - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) - You can clean the toilet whilst you sing this song, it's not a pleasant job but "Why does it feel so good"!! Should put a smile on your face.
Jamelia - Superstar - Cook the dinner whilst you sing along to this one "There's something about you, lets keep it moving, and if its good lets just get something cooking". Do what Jamelia says!
Joss Stone - Super Duper Love - Time to make some soup and whilst you are stirring the pot sing in a deep sexy voice, "Do you wanna a little bit of my love."
Jean Knight - Mr. Big Stuff - Time to clean the television screen now, bopping your head in a chicken like fashion singing, "Who do you think you are? Mr Big Stuff, you're never going to get my love."
Blue - All Rise - Hang on in there, we are near the end. Time to fold the towels and put them in the cupboard and bend the knees in time to the music "Its 1 for the money and the free rides, it two for the lie that you denied, All Rise, All Rise".
LeAnn Rimes - Can't Fight The Moonlight - A slightly slower song but one I really like, you can listen to this whilst you empty the dishwasher, "You can try to resist, try to hide from my kiss, but you know, but you know, you can't fight the moonlight". You can try to resist from emptying the dishwasher but you know you'll have to do it sometime so sing along and get it done.
Katie Melua - The Closest Thing To Crazy - The last song in the CD and a much slower pace because by now you will be exhausted, last job to do is polish the silver so this is definitely a sitting down song "How can I have got in so deep, why did I fall in love with you? This is the closest thing to crazy I have ever been". And if you have done all that I have said in this review then you will be pretty close to being crazy!!
Advantages: makes you WANT to do housework Disadvantages: a few random rubbish songs
...Cliff Richard) to do my housework to, but overall a good selection. I'd give it 4 and a half stars if I could.
********Price etc:
I got it to bump my amazon.co.uk order over the magic £19 (for free shipping) and it was £12.99 there, but it's £11.99 at virginmegastores.co.uk and £14.99 at play.com (which has free shipping). I still think it's a bargain for a double cd.
It's produced by Virgin Records (2005). ...

Advantages: Great songs to get you through the houseowrk Disadvantages: having to do the housework in the first place
...disc but lets hope our housework doesn't last that long or perhaps when you listen to this you may well want it too lol. So as the first CD goes in the player and Queen's "I Want To Break Free" begins to blast out and I am on my way with my housework singing as I go it certainly does make the housework a bit more pleasant. The songs are a great variety of tracks to boogie to from the sixties up to modern day. Doing the ironing to songs like "Fame" ... ...have to be doing the housework to listen to this CD, I think its gonna prove a great addition to my CD collection for the party season. The cover isw very simple really and it's a picture of a woman singing into a vacuum hose like we all have done at one stage in the past. Mind you why is it a woman and not a man isn't that a bit sexist lol. The sleeve has the tracking listen which is as follows: CD 1
1. Queen - I Want To Break Free
2. Ronan Keating ...

Advantages: A good mix of songs Disadvantages: Doesnt help you get through the housework
...to help you through the housework but I personally dont think it really does,if anything it distracts you, because you just start singing along to all the great tracks this album has to offer, you get caught up in the music and completely lose track of what you were doing - maybe a good thing in a way :-)
Housework vol 1 is a double album that has some cracking songs that you just dont seem to hear on the radio anymore such as The Beach Boys - Help ... ...songs on this album just make you feel good and really help to lift your spirits, but I honestly think its marketed wrong, this is a feel good album for anyone just not people doing the housework.I dont think the title of the album really represents or does justice to the high quality of tracks this 2 cd album has to offer.
The track listing for the album I have is as follows,
CD 1 1. Queen - I Want To Break Free 2. Ronan Keating - Life Is A Rollercoaster ...

Quick review of Housework Songs Vol.1 - Various Artists
i dont usually like this sort of album but my mum put i on when i was with her once and i really got into it, and like the title suggests its great to do housework to. i must admit though a few of the songs dont fit in with the whole purpose of the cd, they are lovey dovey, slow songs which contradicts the album ...
