Even if you don't like the music, Air's videos are a revelation. 'Kelly Watch The Stars' pastiches Atari games using live hosts and is funny, sexy and damned wacky all at once. 'Sexy Boy' resembled a cartoon film with a teddy bear making inopportune appearances at will. Didn't make a blind bit of sense but then nonsense is sometimes more entertaining than sensibility.
Air creates music of a very distinct French sound. In their highly individual use of conventional instruments combined with electronic sounds they have created their own niche within the ambient sub-genre of electronic music.

Advantages: Unusual and insightful blend of trance and psychedelic rock. Disadvantages: Heavy reliance on borrowed ideas, and second half is a waste.

In the years before his band teamed up with Scandinavian metal artists, when Porcupine Tree was essentially a pseudonym for Steve Wilson in his bedroom mixing Pink Floyd riffs with trance atmospheres, the highly experimental 'Voyage 34' was released as an extended single when it became clear that it wouldn't fit on Wilson's forthcoming second album, 'Up the Downstair.' Combining his dual influences of psychedelic seventies prog with the contemporary electronic scene, the voyage consists of two sets of two songs each, released separately and eventually collected as 'Voyage 34: The Complete Trip' in 2000, with a re-issue in 2004.

...Slightly more worthy than her solitary hit "Just What i Always Wanted "suggests,provided its approached and enjoyed as pure pastiche and indulgent nostalgic enjoyment,even in 1982 Mari Wilson was portrayed as nostalgic ,her 15 minuteds of fame arriving at the tail end of a post punk mod revival,the whole concept relied on and evoked an age that never quite was,stylish lyrics ,glamorous outfits and a showband mentality that recalled the glory days of The Supremes ,Lulu and Sandie Shaw all put together on a shoestring budget inSouth London at the turn of the eighties initially as a very appealing live draw along the lines of Paul Youngs Q-Tips with a little less sweat.
