Advantages: Good selection of skream tracks Disadvantages: the frequencies tend to stay in the same conceptual space too often
This mix is quite a hefty run through of all the big tracks of 2007 in the world of Dub-step (which is a relatively new but ever-increasingly popular music genre). The sound is from London and the UK (which is where most of the producers on the mix come from. The tracks are based upon what DJ Skream likes personally and what he plays at DJ sets (or was in the 2007-2008 period).
Kulture kicks off the mix with a reggae infuse synth bassline rizing track which gets the energy levels pumping straight from the outset (interesting way to start a mix!) Next is a track from Skream himself which was popular one on pirate radio and in D clubs 'wobble that gut' with minimal progressive beats and bass-lines. Next is another skream track of a remix of a garage track bydj zinc. Its got bass technical-wobbles and a sick vocal (cool). Then its Skream ...
Advantages: classic turntablism and hip hop mix, funny and a brilliant listen Disadvantages: too short?
Depending on who you are and what sort of music you listen to or what scene you follow, DJ Yoda is either one of two things; some guy you?ve never heard of, with a funny Star Wars moniker or a hip hop (turntable) legend.
I discovered the wonderful world of DJ Yoda back in 2003, shortly after Howto Cut and Paste Vol.1 was released. I actually bought Volume 2 first, don?t ask why, I just did. I then bought Volume 1 and every other Album of Yoda?s since.
DJ Yoda is a white, Jewish, British DJ, whose skills on the decks would make GrandMaster Flash blink with admiration and respect. High praise indeed, if you know who these people are. Along with Dan Greenpeace, Yoda has a radio show on Xfm but also tours and bashes out these fabulous mixtapes/albums. This one is most noticeably his best. In my opinion anyway. There are a nice mix ...
Advantages: Amazing music, sharp script Disadvantages: Last third drags on a bit
Kill Bill Vol. 2 is the concluding installment of the Kill Bill saga. In this one the Bride (Uma Thurman) continues her vengeance against her ex-boss, Bill, and the two remaining members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad; his younger brother Budd, and Bill's latest flame Elle.
The first one had more of an eastern feel, this one is more like a western. So it's dusty, dirty and sweaty. Again Tarantino enlists the help of Ennio Morricone, the man who can take an ordinary western and make it legendary. His music is masterful, the lone trumpets in his compositions invoking a sense of isolation and the wild west, which is exactly the tone this film needs.
The acting is good again, helped by a sharp script. The action scenes are fewer and far between than the first one but equally as impressive. Again during the fight scenes ...
