Advantages: A back-catalogue, unheard to many Disadvantages: A case of trying to make as much money out of Nirvana as possible
...When Kurt Cobain died on April 5th 1994, people believed "grunge was dead" etc. etc. More than a decade on, and still it's deemed necessary to squeeze money out of the Cobain/Nirvana legacy and prove this belief wrong....unfortunately this may be the last stop for this supposedly runaway train.
When the box-set "With The Lights Out" was released in late 2004, it was certainly seen as the definitive collection of Nirvana rarities and outtakes. It was critically acclaimed and praised for letting the world see a different, even rawer side to one of grunge's founding fathers. Yet this release is a condensed version - "The Best Of The Box" - another money-making excuse.
3 songs are included on this album however that did not feature in the box set, and completely unreleased regardless of whatever bootleg albums have ever been released...

Advantages: Very powerful lyrics, with great music played by the Nirvana boys, plus special guests. A lovely, relaxing listen. Disadvantages: (none)
...Nirvana are a band that will always be remembered. Not only because the lead singer, Kurt Cobain, killed himself, but also because their music was so passionate, meaningful, and influential. They founded grunge with their first album, Bleach, and have advanced greatly to this album.
Unplugged in New York was recorded live for MTV in late 1993, and was released as a CD in early 1994. It was the last release by Nirvana while Kurt Cobain was still alive, and many people (including me) will name it as the best Nirvana album.
This album shows the much softer, and mellow, side of Nirvana, with them trying to show that they’re not just a grunge band, but can also do other types of music. Half of the songs from this album were original Nirvana songs, whereas the other half were covers of other bands songs, which were all performed...

Advantages: 30 songs, 2 CDs, rare, superb Disadvantages: Some are B sides for a reason!
...they were made B sides for a reason right? For example, 'Dirty Frank', i know some people like Pearl Jam at their funky and arty best, but for me this song just doesn't work. And when you consider that more recent B sides such as 'Leatherman' were left off, i think this is perhaps a little hasty on their part.
Still, it's excellent value, with 30 songs over 2 CDS, and the quality of the packaging is, as ever , with Pearl Jam, worth the purchase alone.
Roll on June 18th, when PJ come rolling into London Town...lets see if it can live up to Reading 2006!!!
YELLOW LEDBETTER TO FINISH...oh yes!...
