Advantages: Some real gems Disadvantages: Quite a lot of pathetic overplayed tracks too
...3:18
I am a huge Jamiroquai fan so this has to go in. Definately one of the best tracks available here and also one of Jamiroquai's best. This combines an extreme amount of funk with acid jazz and heavy bass to create a really danceable track.
3.Sixpence none the richer - 'Kiss me' - 3:17
A lovely track which makes you sing along. This is one of sixpence none the richers' best tracks and also one of the best trcaks on ... ...some kind of romantic film or something like that.
4.New Radicals - 'You get what you give' - 4:39
Bit of an odd beginning but once this track gets going its a good one. A solid band track thats almost a classic but not quite. cant really describe this one, you just gotta listen to it.
5.Manic street preachers -'You stole the sun from my heart' - 4:18
Vintage manic street preachers. Better than your average ... more
This review seems to be being written too late for this cd, but before it is branded as 'just another one of those compilations' forever i thought i would put up a case for it. I got this cd a long time ago when pop was actually popular. However after completely forgetting i even owned this cd i found it about 6 months ago and after listening to it the whole way through discovered some hidden jems. To go through each track one-by-one seems a bit long to me and would probably be a waste of time because you will all know a lot of the tracks on here already (Britney spears, westlife, eiffel 65, backstreet boys, steps etc. just to name a few). However, when you look more closely at the track listing you may notice some hidden treasures amongst all the pop which dominates this double disc cd. I thought then that i would just tell you about the few of my favourite tracks on this album so that you can see its good side (the numbers I have given next to each song are not the track numbers, just the way I have numbered them):
1.Lou Bega - 'Mambo no.5' - 3:35 What a great track! this is an instant classic which will be played for years to come. Using a big band, Lou Bega mixes a bit of jazz with a certain 'je ne sais quoi' (i think thats how you spell it!)
2.Jamiroquai - 'Canned Heat' - 3:18 I am a huge Jamiroquai fan so this has to go in. Definately one of the best tracks available here and also one of Jamiroquai's best. This combines an extreme amount of funk with acid jazz and heavy bass to create a really danceable track.
3.Sixpence none the richer - 'Kiss me' - 3:17 A lovely track which makes you sing along. This is one of sixpence none the richers' best tracks and also one of the best trcaks on disc one. You could see this song being used on some kind of romantic film or something like that.
4.New Radicals - 'You get what you give' - 4:39 Bit of an odd beginning but once this track gets going its a good one. A solid band track thats almost a classic but not quite. cant really describe this one, you just gotta listen to it.
5.Manic street preachers -'You stole the sun from my heart' - 4:18 Vintage manic street preachers. Better than your average track, but not groundbreaking. Good use of lead guitar to bring occasional reminisenses of Queen....?
6.Tom Jones and the Cardigans - 'Burning down the house' - 3:37 The king of Welsh pop. This is a fantastic combination of the Welsh master and a band that have always been there but sort of in the background. Some great beats in this track with trumpet and guitar appearances. Really good track.
7.ATB - '9pm till I come' - 2:41 Classic club tune here. I had to include this one because although its probably not to everyones taste this is actually a well mixed track with good beats and a solid theme. This is also very well timed as if it was much longer it could get a beat repetitive!
8.Armand van Helden - 'You don't know me' - 4:00 This guy is relatively unheard of but has actually been producing high quality dance tracks that we've all listened to for years. This is an artist worth checking out if you dont already know about him. True club music, great mix.
9.Fatboy slim - 'Praise you' - 3:53 I love this track. So original, and by the mix-master himself Fatboy slim. What I love so much about this track being on here is that you can get Fatboy slims finest with lots of other great tracks without having to buy his album where there's likely to be loads of stuff thats (to be honest) not quite up to this standard.
10.Lauryn Hill - 'Ex-factor' - 4:35 I had never even listened to this track before one of my mates did a mix of it with some damien rice. I then started to have a look for it on the internet before realising i actually already owned it. This is an amazing track which has made me toy with the idea of buying her album. A must-listen-to track which is now one of the most played ones on my computer.
Ok, there we go. These of course are my personal favourites and ones which i feel may have not been noticed by those looking at this album, so there are other great tracks available on the cd. The album itself is double-disc and therefore value for money if you can find it for under about £12. I dont think this is a run-off-the-mill compilation because there are so many artists that i wouldnt have known about without it. Definately one to look out, and if you havnt got more than two or three of the tracks I have mentioned it is probably worth parting with your cash for.......for the right amount of course!
Huge Hits, big hits, dance hits, club hits, greatest hits... what a collection!
More than likely you could expect to find practically the same songs on other different compilation Cd's. So I figured, before you and go and spend £19.00 on this Cd, let me tell you who is listed:
Eiffel 65, George Micheal, Lou Bega, Ricky Martin, Britney Spears, S Club 7, Westlife, Five, Backstreet Boys, Steps, Boyzone, Jamiroquai, B*Witched, Sixpense none the Richer, ...
