My View

AdvantagesThis is a mix of dance and chill

DisadvantagesI expected more from the album

"This is only my second review EVER!! I purchased this album on a bit of a whim really, a quest for new tunes to lend my ears too!! This is at times very dancey and yet very chilled out. My personal favourites are "Trim", "Twist" and "Sola Sistim" - all three tracks are of a somewhat chilled out nature. I often listen to this album to unwind and re-charge the batteries. There are the released songs of "two months off" and "Luetin" which ..." Read review

"I just love it that's all. No questions about it. The first time I have heard it was in the TRAINSPOTTING movie.

Additional notes

Album Notes Underworld: Karl Hyde, Rick Smith.
If there's a pillar of consistency amidst the johnny-come-latelies in the ever fad-conscious electronic world, it's British outfit Underworld. They date back to the late-80s, tasted just a dash of well-deserved pop success with the ubiquitous "Born Slippy" roundabout the center of the electronica explosion into the mainstream, and continue to create intelligent, variegated, distinctive compositions. On A HUNDRED DAYS OFF, the band's first release as the duo of Karl Hyde & Rick Smith (DJ Darren Emerson left to pursue solo projects) since their first couple records, Underworld crafts its usual synthesis of many styles from many eras.
As close to bands like Ride and Slowdive as they are to Orbital, Orb, and the like, Underworld bury vocals (usually Hyde's) communicating curious, unsettling lines (like "I think he smoked his lungs" on "Luetin") under lush soundtracks that swirl and entrance. Hyde and Smith's music has always hearkened back to their early days in the new-wave '80s, but has also always incorporated elements of punk, psychedelic, ambient, trance, etc. into a sound poppy yet by no means simplistic, readily digestable yet far from disposable. A HUNDRED DAYS OFF furthers this trend.
Album Reviews Rolling Stone - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Underworld still nail a groove and then just sit on it forever...The beauty of A HUNDRED DAYS OFF is that it pumps and churns so suggestively."
CMJ - p.6) - "...The duo has developed a newfound maturity, resulting in a multifaceted piece of work..."
Uncut - 4 stars out of 5 - "...A very fine album--Underworld don't make any other kind...a beautiful and baffling enigma."
Spin - 8 out of 10 - "...The most user-friendly record of Underworld's career..."
NME - 8 out of 10 - "...Karl and Rick have pulled off a comeback in fine style....Underworld prove that you're only as old as the technology you use..."
Mojo - "...This is a big, big sound...the overall feel is of a band who've given themselves permission to have fun."
