Hello everyone! This is my first ever review on Ciao! As everybody seems to doing it at school I thought that I had better join in! As I'm new to this I would appreciate comments advising me on how to improve or add things to my opinions. I'm positive they won't be good to start off with so any comments at all would help me a great deal! Anyway, on with the review:
Linkin Park - Hybrid theory is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion. Now I'm not a great listener of this particular type of music, but I decided to try this album based on the single Crawling by the same artist. There is a mixture of softer to heavy tracks which makes them all different, this is refreshing and makes it easier to listen to. The album is only 37 minutes long split into 12 tracks. This makes it easy to listen to as it doesn't take that long and this has its advantages. You can listen to the album more times and get to know it quite well as it is shorter. I was
pleasantly surprised as I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album and would recommend it to anybody. If you haven't tried this music before, you should give it a go, you never know you might even like it.
Now here is a bit of band background:
There are five members of Linkin Park: Lead vocal is Chester Bennington, Drums and Backing Vocals is Rob Bourdon, Guitar, Bass and Backing Vocals is Brad Delson. Joseph Hahn: Records, Sampling and Backing Vocals, Mike Shinoda: Vocals, Emcee, Beats and Sampling. A new youthful band that is definitely talented by the looks of this album. A superb album.
Now I will give a brief run through of all the tracks:
1. Papercut: brilliant opening track and soon to be released single. Good lyrics and all round good track, good start, one of the best.
2. One Step Closer: Another good track and their first single, but is let down when 40 seconds away from the end of the song, there is just shouting " SHUT UP WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU". In my opinion this wrecks the track, however still not bad and still good to listen to up until 40 seconds from the end.
3. With You: Keeping up the quality of track, I should especially mention the interesting lyrics. The track has an order: lyrics with quiet backing music, then switches to the guitar and drums with quieter vocals. A good blend!
4. Points of Authority: A similar track to the others, I like the choruses especially. Again a good track as with most of the others on this brilliant album.
5. Crawling: This was their second single and an excellent song, probably in my opinion the best on the album! A different type of track compared to its predecessors, a good change, brilliant song and one that should definitely be listened to.
6. Runaway: A different style of singing in this track, however it is still easy listening. Once again something a little different. Again near the end there is a little shouting but doesn't ruin the track at all.
7. By Myself: Talking, singing, guitars, drums and shouting, this track has it all! An excellent blend of everything so far, one of my favourites although not quite as good as Crawling!
8. In the End: A mellower track with the opening played by a piano. Again, talking in this track, and yet another great song.
9. A Place for My Head: A brilliant beginning, from slow to fast with an interlude of vocals. This track builds up from slow to fast throughout this track, again. Guess what I'm going to say? It's another good track!
10. Forgotten: Back to the same as the opening tracks, a little more heavy opening, similar to A Place for my Head as it goes slow to fast. A solid track.
11. Cure for the Itch: I don't know what happened here, an extremely weak track, totally different from what they tried to do before. The track is a strange mix of music, with small introductions in between each different piece, this is obviously the only dance track on the album and is where the two DJs of the band come into there own. However it doesn't go with the rest of the album. Weakest track on the album, no singing, no guitar, tried something different and failed!
12. Pushing Me Away: Solid ending to the album with a good track makes up for the previous disaster of Cure for the Itch! Similar to Forgotten in style, but different if you understand what I mean! Good ending to a great album!
So to sum up this is an excellent album, I would recommend it to anyone even if they have never listened to this heavier type of music before. I would ask that before anyone dismisses it, they listen then judge, otherwise you are missing out! I hope I have given an insight into this album and maybe some people who had not heard of Linkin Park before may try it. Hybrid Theory is well worth it, hope the next album is just as good if not better.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Not a bad op, but there are other more deserving bands with much better music that don't get a look-in because of the marketing which goes behind bands like this.

I don't know why you've got a problem with the shouty bits in One Step Closer and Run Away, its what the songs build up to - satisfying and emotional. Hey, that's metal for you. Get your ass in a moshpit and then tell us you don't like shouty bits.
Also, A Cure for the Itch makes the album flow nicely, it gives you a chance to relax before the final pop-rock climax of Pushing Me Away.
Other than that, an excellent review!

It may be too cynical to assume Hybrid Theory changed its name to Linkin Park in order to ... more
