Linkin Park is an American, controversial band, made up of five men: Chester Bennington - Vocals Rob Bourbon - Drums & backing vocals Brad Delson - Guitars, bass, backing vocal Joseph Hahn - Records, sampling, backing vocals Mike Shinoda - EMCEE, vocals, beats, sampling.
With Chester's "mammoth" voice, Mike's thought provoking MC'ing and amazing instrumentals, this definitly is a hybrid of amazing elements which make the unique sound of Linkin Park. Listening to this album of 12 tracks, you will realise why they are so successful all over the world, bringing fans of all kinds together.
Here are the tracks:
1) Papercut: A song which was taken out as a single, which is definitly single material. Mike's MC'ing is at a high standard in here with this unique method. This song manly has Mike in but Chester lends his strong vocals here too. Amazing use of electric guitars too.
2) One Step Closer: This song mainly consists of Chester's voice, which suits this track very well. It is a very catchy tune. Full of a heavy metal vibe with a ver unique sound to it. The chorus is especially brilliant.
3) With you: This has a dance element as well as heavy metal because it has sampling too which mix well together like orange and chocolate! Chester definitly proves that he has a "mammoth" voice and Mike is at his best. This is the most catchy track in this album.
4) Point of Authority: More sampling along with heavy metal. Very good song writing and the chorus is top-notch. This track has the most well-thought and easy to learn.
5) Crawling: This is the best single that Linkin Park has brought out. This is a bit mellower but it doesn't mean they won't hold back the amazing sampling and heavy metal they use. Out-standing use of lyrics and sounds. Chester's voice at it's best.
6) Runaway: Another mellower tune but full of heavy metal influences in the intro. Again Chester's voice is at his best here. This is a very addictive tune with a chorus that anyone can follow even if your slow.
7) By myself: A bit of a Marilyn Manson in the intro by the instrumental, but it is obviously different to Manson. Chester adopts a Aerosmith method of singin in points of the song. Mike has brilliant lyrics here.
8) In the End: Another one of the most mellow tunes in the album. Amazing MC'ing and great use of the piano here to make the original tune of "In the End". One of my favourite tracks in this album because the instrumental and vocals are enchanting.
9) A Place for my Head: I just love this fast pace intro with the use of a guitar, almost like a latin vibe, but then we have brilliant sampling and great vocals and MC'ing. This is why the album is called "Hybrid Theaory" because Linkin Park mixed different styles and influences to make this "hybrid" of music.
10) Forgotten: This is a bit like "A Place for my Head" at the beginning as it continues from track 9 it melds like one song. This is a very uique song though because only the intro sounds like Track 9.
11) Cure for the Itch: This is not quite a proper track, but it shows off the talent of Joseph Hahn and his sampling and record scratching which is heard in all the tracks. He is amazing when it comes to record scratching and sampling, he is the king! He sounds as if he is ready to makes backing tracks for films etc.
12) Pushing me away: A tad bit like "Crawling" at first, but again Chester has a brilliant voice here with thought-provoking lyrics and raps by Mike. Each songs has it's unique sound which is brilliant and can never be boring.
For those who are prone to getting head aches easily, stay away, mothers stay away, but all the rest get this album because even I, who does not like all heavy metal etc, will love it.
Plus the soldeir picture on the cover of the CD is done by Mike! Very talented man here!

An excellent op, on an excellent band and cd. Only one problem!! I am a mother who has it full blast while driving, and the kids are the ones who do not like it or them. Take care Trace:)

v good opinion, clearly written by a fan of Linkin! Agree with much of your review, but I found the album a bit 'Nu-Metal by Numbers'. I much prefer the stuff from System of a Down

appear right next to Limp Bizkit in your local record bin. But rock-rap workouts like "One Step Closer" and "Papercut" do make Linkin Park a comfortable fit with ...
