I Ain't Marching Anymore - Phil Ochs

Advantages: All of Phil's classics at their best LIVE!
Disadvantages: Difficult to obtain.

...Well when I say rocks i mean he ambles gently along. This is Phil Collins performing songs as they were meant to be Live and stripped of studio polish. On this album Phil gets back to his roots and performs all of his hits in his own soulful fashion. Although his poppy hits such as "Something happened on the way to heaven" and "Can't hurry love" are obviously classics and deserve to be here it is on lesser known tracks like "Take me Home" and "In the Air Tonight" were his musical talent shine through. Slagged off by everybody the majority of whom own at least one album the man is a genius and illustrates this track after track. You can feel the atmosphere of an obviously enraptured crowd and almost give the man an ovation yourself when the CD finishes.I must have even for those with other greatest hits albums. ...Phil collins, former member of Genisis and former solo artist, formed what came to be known as the phil collins big band. The Cd, titled a hot night in Paris, portrays the phil collins big band as an up beat big band. Recorded in Paris in 1999, the 20 piece big band, made up of fine musicians from around the globe, recorded this fantastic album. The tracks include: 1. Sussudio 2. That's All 3. Invisible Touch 4. Los Endos Suite You dont have to be a jazz fanatic to enjoy this CD as it appeals to everyone. The drumming, laid down by Phil Collins, is tight and precise, producing an overall fantastic sound. Advantages: Fantastic History of the band who invented Folk Rock
Disadvantages: No Family Tree, but you can get it in "History"

...The band's name is Fairport Convention, not Fairground Convention. There is a wonderful CD compilation , callled "History" which a fine selection of Fairport's music, but this compilation has two CDs and as such provides a more exhaustive selection of the band's work for the Island label. It opens with a track from their debut album (which was on the Polydor label) and featured Judy Dyble on vocals,) a version of Joni Mitchell's "Chelsea Morning" demonstrating their early leanings towards their West Coast influences of Bob Dylan , Jefferson Airplane and Phil Ochs. The band have always had a fluid line up and around 1968 virtually single handedly invented British Folk rock. Sandy Denny (ex of the early Strawbs) came in on vocals and Richard Thompson on guitar, The groups history is detailed concisely and beutifully in the liner family... Read review
