I Am A Pilgrim - Merle Travis

...Rob's finest solo album sees him return to his roots. The master of the resophonic guitar, backed up at various times by his band mates from bluegrass supergroup Blue Highway offers some of the best music ever recorded on the dobro. The album is mainly an instrumental one with only the first track of the CD having vocals, that being a rip roaring version of Machine Gun Kelly. Sweet and soulful sounds can be found throughout, and Rob's dobro/bass duet on his jazzed up version of Merle Travis's "I Am A Pilgrim" is truly a treat for the ears. Of course no bluegrass CD would be complete without the obligatory fiddle tune, and on this album these include Fiddler's Dream and a fast paced, fun, hard driving rendition of Lost Indian. Advantages: Nice, gentle music
Disadvantages: not to my taste, a lot of rubbish side B type songs

...I must admit from the start I did not buy this album, it was borrowed off a friend. Travis' type of music isn't normally my type - I am a Britney Spears man me! However, most singers of Travis' type of music are freaks with big sunglasses and 70's type flares. Travis aren't quite as bad and there music is the same. I cannot admit to actually enjoying the music but I must say it is fairly good although there are only a couple of good songs, most are quite pathetic but then, do I think that because of my taste? Well, evidently not compared with some other comments posted about this album. Travis have made a fair attempt here but there are better albums which are more worthy of your cash.... Read review

..."The Man Who" by Travis is a great album with all of their great chart hits such as "Driftwood" and "Turn" included. Travis have put together a good collection of very different songs but still containing the certain "touch" that Travis add to their pieces. Although the cover of the CD may seem a little boring and unoriginal, the CD is a good buy for anyone who is a fan of Travis or not. I was not a fan of Travis before I heard this CD from a friend.
