record as wholeheartedly terrific as this? Fourteen years into their career as indie rock's low-key mainstays, the Hoboken, New Jersey, trio have arrived--and it's about time. It's as though simply by sticking around long enough and doing the same thing over and over while constantly refining and focusing Yo La have evolved from scattered, record-collecting eccentrics into the true classicists of 1990s indie rock. Blending elements of what has illuminated Sonic Youth, Stereolab, Pavement and My Bloody Valentine, they've long had a clear voice but never sounded so comfortable using it. Wilfully eclectic husband-and-wife multi-instrumentalists Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley--with third member James McNew never sounding more permanent--have previously tended to alternate between their instincts to be a pop rock band and to serve as artsy noisemakers. On I Can Hear..., the group doesn't have to choose between songs and sounds. There's noise leaking out everywhere, but it's always under control. Even the most layered soundscapes--songs like "Autumn Sweater", "Sugarcube", or "Moby Octopad"--have unforgettable melodies, with fragile harmonies to boot. "We're an American Band" (not a Grand Funk cover) could be Simon and Garfunkel singing along to the Jesus and Mary Chain. And on tracks like "Shadows" or "My Little Corner of the World", where the melody consumes everything else, deceptively simple backdrops provide a less-is-more atmosphere. Just in time for indie rock to catch up with Yo La Tengo, Yo La Tengo has caught up with itself. --Roni Sarig

Advantages: Some of the songs are really catchy Disadvantages: It's a bit long and messy
on me. It is a definite foot-tapper and although I think could sound a bit stronger, it is one that you can hum along with rather than sing along with. One thing that struck me with this song is it?s likeness to Beanbag Chair (track 2). There are a lot of similarities which is both a bad point (as they seem to be a bit samey and recycled) however is good (because I like Beanbag Chair).
13. Song For Mahila (3.40)
A chilled out song, which is really nice and quite jazzy to start with consists of an older sounding voice and seems to be what YoLaTengo would go for if they were to try a ballad.
14. Point And Shoot (4.18)
This, again, sounds quite jazzy behind the vocals however these tend usually to make the song take on a different sound completely. I don?t think this song is for me, with both a jazzy sounding tune and a bit ...
Advantages: A couple of decent tracks Disadvantages: The album lacks consistency, a lot of fillers are evident here
, and this can actually be said of the majority of this album. Title track 'When Your Heart Stops Beating' is an extremely impressive offering and should put a smile on the face of most Mark Hoppus fans as he plays his part well here with bass and vocals coming through strongly and really making the track stand out, showing for the first time here that he does not need Tom DeLonge by his side in order to produce a memorable track. I would suggest that this is the bands finest moment on the album and other than this there are really very few tracks that stand out. The only other tracks that I would say are indeed worth a mention are those of the disco punk fun of '155 - +44', 'Make You Smile' with its dual male and female vocal assault, and the sombre tones of 'No It Isn't'.
Although not the best album you're ever likely to hear, I think that ...
Advantages: Excellent features and ease of use, looks great, ipod and phone in one. Disadvantages: Initial Cost, Lack of Video filming, cant send pictures via MMS.
I purchased my Iphone as soon as they came out in the shops. And since then i've had nothing but pleasure from using it on a day to day basis.
It is by far the easiest and most feature packed phone i've ever used, the touch screen technology is spot on, compared to some other touch screen phones i've used there is no comparison.
The phones layout is very easy to use and navigate around, and you also have the option to move the buttons around and design the screen as you wish.
The usual phone functions are as to be expected, but its the extra features that really make this phone special, such as google earth, Itunes, direct links to Youtube, the ability to use Facebook, Ebay, Amazon, sky sports, MySpace and yell.com....all designed to use with the Iphone in mind.

Album Notes
Yo La Tengo: Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan, James McNew. Additional personnel: Al Perkins (lap steel & pedal steel guitars); Jonathan Marx (trumpet). Recorded at House Of David, Nashville, Tennessee. Yo La Tengo began life as one among hundreds of Velvet Underground-inspired bands, banging out dark, skittish tunes that displayed YLT guitarist/vocalist Ira Kaplan's affection for Uncle Lou as well as Yo La Tengo's commitment to creating a gently subversive groove. Over the years, the band, which also features Kaplan's wife Georgia Hubley on drums and vocals, has gone through more identity changes than David Bowie, from acoustic folk-rock to wailing, Sonic Youth-like guitarchitecture. On this album, the band consolidates their sound as they expand it, incorporating bossa nova, electronica and '60s pop into a gorgeous shimmering whole that is something more than the sum of its parts. The laconic-but-expressive vocals of Kaplan and Hubley provide the songs with just the right combination of detachment and naivete, and the trio (which also includes bassist James McNew) sounds like one person with six arms, three brains and one big heart. And don't worry; "We're An American Band" isn't the old Grand Funk Railroad song.

Rolling Stone (5/1/97, pp.50-52) - 4 Stars (out of 5) - "...Yo La Tengo maintain a tension between aural deconstruction and sharp songwriting. The album has its share of perfect pop songs....HEART proves that Yo La Tengo can master nearly any pop style..." Spin (6/97, pp.118-119) - 9 (out of 10) - "...this is a band that not only delves into their vast record collection but figures out what makes their faves tick; and their tickers beat as one..." Q (6/97, p.140) - "...16 examples of Nashville-recorded, dreamy pop sleight-of-hand..." Melody Maker (4/19/97, p.52) - "This album is a long journey. It has the stretch of distance covered and the domestic intimacy of sitting in a small space and watching things go by the window..." NME (4/19/97, p.44) - "...I CAN HEAR THE HEART BEATING AS ONE is wonderfully sprawling and diverse, with a rock curator's attention to detail and the odd in-joke thrown in....An impressive mixture of curiousness and guile, all told...." Entertainment Weekly (5/2/97, p.56) - "...confirms what their last few albums have intimated: They've become our best old-school indie-rock band....Their muted, after-hours guitar drone is in full effect. But splashes of piano or acoustic guitar add depth and airiness to the songs..." - Rating: A- Option (5-6/97, p.89) - "...influences ranging from Jobim and '60s French pop to the Jesus & Mary Chain and the Beach Boys...bound by occasional dollops of greasy feedback....YLT fully indulges its desire to make noise, bridging the drone gap between '60s VU and '90s Tortoise..."
