Advantages: Great bass lines on nearly al the tracks. Disadvantages: Some filler tracks which are'nt needed.
I recently received the new Calvin Harris record as i purchased it from an internet auction site (ebay). The album came exactly as stated and is basically an early release of the album. However, with added synthesizers and simple lyrics the songs immediately become dance anthems.
With the good success of the first single acceptable in the 80s, Calvin became a recognized artist and producer. With The Girls reaching number 3 in the charts, he has proved he has a firm place at the tp of dance music.
Before buying the album, i expected it t be full of the same style of music. However, i was proven wrong as it does contain a perfect mixture of classic tunes.
The album opens with style and straight away we are posed with a dance floor anthem....
1) Merrymaking at my place - With a great bass line, the song immediately gets you out your seat to dance. This song is already doing well in clubs and from what i hear is the next single to be released. If this proves to be right, a top 10 position is inevitable.
2) Colours - Again colours starts with another stonker bass line and the repetitive and catchy lyrics gains our attention. Undoubtedly a sing-a-long will soon come.
3) This is the industry - This song has been on Harris' myspace before and has received mixed reactions from many people. I personally don't rate it much as its not got much appeal. Definitely not a dance floor classic...
4) The girls - Undoubtedly one of the best songs on the album as it provides a heavy bass line and dance beat to make us move. So far its his most successful but im sure this wont be the case in the future.
5) Acceptable in the 80s - At first this song wasn't hugely appealing to me, but the more it got played, the more it grew on me. With it beginning to appear on adverts and tv programs more often its very unlikely that people wont recognize it. If you want people to dance at a party, this song would definitely do the trick.
6) Neon Rocks - Heard this song when Harris first came into the mainstream. Since then its been taken off his myspace but possibly this could be due to it being released in the future? Follows the same kind of tune to this is the industry but it offers so much more with its variety of synths and catchy lyrics.
7) Traffic cops - First filler track on the album, only a minute long and is basically and intro to vegas. Not much to say about it other than press the skip button...
8) Vegas - Another brilliant song and its up with the likes of the 80s and the girls. He chooses to play this last in his live sets usually and you can see why. Again he relies on the bass line to carry the song and the lyrics are great but yet when the lyrics are read into can be a little disturbing to those who take it the wrong way. This song could be a huge commercial success in the future.
9) I created disco - Good instrumental tune which every good dance album needs. No propper lyrics are in it however this song will become a cult classic with Calvin's fans alike. All i can say is i love it!
10) Disco Heat - Great song. Lots of synths, probably the most on the album, but its a great song to dance to and drive to. Great summers day song with the car windows down and the sun roof open. Brings back the weekend is near feeling!
11) Vault character - Next filler track on the album, only 8 seconds short. I find it quite good actually as its a good start for the next track certified. Again, most will say its simply not needed.
12) Certified - Not one of the best tracks on the album, however it still has some appeal. Follows the same tune throughout the song and in my opinion it lacks of a good bass line like Calvins other songs. I suppose it does provide a variety to the album however his fans are getting something which isn't what they expected.
13) Love souvenir - Absolute classic. Great song to either listen to when relaxing or when recovering from a hangover on those dreaded Sunday mornings! Its calm feeling will provide a great atmosphere and i can see it being used in tents at festivals in the summer.
14) Electro Man - Last track n the album and i felt slightly disappointed by it. I felt the album should go out in a bang with a great track and Electro Man just doesn't provide this. However others may have a different opinion but im sure most will agree.
Advantages: The CD can be used to signal passing planes if you're stuck on a desert island Disadvantages: Pretentious, boring, arrogant and not all that
...you sick sometimes, doesn’t it? I mean, you sit in front of a PC for years trying to cobble together a song that might just make a difference. You fight chord progressions; you whack a wah-wah on yer gee-tar and modulate the hell out of your basslines til they’re squelchier than the nappy of a 6 month old with the squits, and then what? I’ll tell you what, some twenty-three year old upstart with nothing but an old Amiga and a vocal processing unit ... ...his ‘nu-sound’.
Highlights
I would suggest that you pretend to be Derek Acorah for a moment, open your mind as far as it will go (your *mind*, I said) and tell me what I’m going to say…What was that? Sorry love, you’re too near, stand back a bit. I’m getting something now…Acc…Acc…Acceptable in the 80’s? You bet it was, but then, so were puffball skirts and coked up yuppies yarking around in trendy wine bars whilst schoolchildren lost out on precious ...

Advantages: Immense tracks and a sense of excitement Disadvantages: A couple of useless tracks used to fill the gaps
...sceptical after hearing "The Girls" I was pleasantly surprised by the creativeness and diversity of the tunes this album had to offer. Dance music should make you want to dance, possibly sing, and jump around with your friends and loved ones. That is why it exists. If you're getting ready for a big night out, you'll whoop with joy when the Scot comes through the speakers. Tunes like "Colours" and Merrymaking at My Place" are perfect for those essential ...

Advantages: Colourful music which is liked. Disadvantages: Not a fan of the sunglasses on the cover.
...it... but im not really. I could still listen to it. I like it. 'Girls' is also a hit and if it wasn't for AIT80s this may have had a bigger success on dancefloors. It is a vibrant piece of work.
Other songs hitting me in my ear space are 'Neon rocks' and 'Vegas'. I can even go as far as saying i could ride my bicycle to these two.
Basically if you are into your electro beat chant music which is kinda popular you should listen/already have listened ...
