If you haven't heard of Andrew WK yet, it's a safe bet that you will before long. Seems to me he could even be the next big music megastar.
But it could go either way…
Take the cover of his album, "I get Wet". It has a photo of Andrew WK with a bloody nose. (That's not swearing - I mean ... Read review

...nose. (That's not swearing - I mean there's blood pouring down his face)
It doesn't look like it's from a nose bleed, but somehow he doesn't look all that, you know, fearsome. I believe that Mr WK is known for banging a brick against his head. Great idea - instant parental disapproval there - so far so good. The photo on the back is less remarkable, however, with Andrew looking like a greasyhaired kid who's about due at his Mum's to get his jeans ... ...released around a month ago, I heard it in my local record shop and it blew me away, it had 'instant hit' stamped all over it, in my view. It's not in the charts as yet, though - so much for that! Jo Whiley played it a lot - I guess it may not appeal to the 10 year olds who buy most stuff in the charts. The song itself is a glamrock-fest, high octane stomping rock, very much along the lines of Kiss, but, better than that, Cheap Trick (remember them?).

Advantages: Dumb, exhilarating, stoopid "Rawk" for the new millenium! Disadvantages: This may start a Hair Metal Revival (shudder!!!)
...with a bone-headed chorus, which I will now relate for you:
“Let’s get a party goin’
Let’s get a party goin’
Now it’s time to party
And we’ll PARTY HARD! (PARTY HARD!)”
Looking at the words, it looks dumb, facile, almost embarrassing, but if you’ve heard the song, filled to the brim with energy and conviction, I dare you not to leave with a massive grin plastered to your face! This is hard ... ...are old enough to remember the pre-Nirvana days why it was so massive in the first place. If like me, you don’t have access to MTV2, and don’t listen to Radio One that much, then point your browser at the official site: http://www.andrewwk.com where the song is blasted at you constantly (mercifully there is an “off” button for when you’ve had enough). Better yet, buy the single when it comes out on the 29th of October. ...

Advantages: Loud, proud, melodic and utterly stupid! Disadvantages: Incredibly short at just over twenty five minutes
...knows!
11. 'I get wet'
I get wet?! What sort of title is that!? He means sweating silly! Although there are some strange lyrics ("I get wet when i've hardly even started, i get wet when i know that you're dying"!?), this is great. Loud? Yup. Proud? Yes. Ultra-fast tempo? Yes. Ridiculous? Double yes!!!
12. 'Don't stop living in the red"
A shame, but the album ends with an unremarkable track really. Less than two minutes long, and hardly memorable ...

Advantages: Something new, sounds very different Disadvantages: Definately not for everyone, has been over-hyped
Let me say - I Get Wet is a damn good album. Not really as good as a lot of people have been saying(i.e. Kerrang! gave it KKKKK - the highest mark they can give to an album, and they rarely give this out) and I'm not too sure about the 'saviour of rock' tag that he has had slapped on him; that may be going just a little bit too far. But then again he has also received his fair share of negative comments from a lot of music fans. But at least people ... ...sounding about from most of the stuff that's coming out at the moment, and he doesn't really have anything negative to say. These two points may put off a lot of the newer rock 'fans', as they will probably be used to all their music sounding the same - and filled with lyrics like 'Die Motherf*cker Die!!!' or something to that effect. But if you're willing to take the plunge and listen to something different, then this may be a good place to start. ...
