2008's biggest Dubstep CD release. DJ's Youngsta and Geeneus bring together more than 40 defenitive dubstep anthems on the RINSE label. And they are defenitely all very good. Its a nice mix of all the styles going on in the scene at the moment. Caspa's 'Rubber Chicken' is straight up huge minimal 'one-womp' bass business whilst tracks like Skream's 'Dutch flowers' takes the listener into some techno-dub infused beats of lushness. The variety of different styles has been filled out well, with the best producers in the scene all getting at least one track on the CD. Of course their is focus on the big producers such as Skream, Benga and Digital Mysitkz. But their are also new producers such as TRG, Headhunter, 2562 and a number of others, all spreading their style within. Overall its a good cd to have if you want an overall view of the scene.
Dubstep is a new genre of music which takes influence from Dub, Garage and Jungle (drum and bass) and fuses them together. It uses the same drum beat style of old dub reggae such as Lee 'Scratch' Perry and King tubby. Its drum noises come from the electronic synth style of garage and its basslines and eerie samples derive from the techniques used in Jungle. If you like Drum and bass you will enjoy this.
