Advantages: Poooower, Great Music, Dylan un-hidden Disadvantages: none fool
...and to avoid people worshipping him like the second coming. This captures a Bob Dylan aged 21 and still holding on to his youthful ideals against the onslaught of the world. It's a wonderful sight, and it makes you wonder why we all in the end seem to give up on our youthful ideals. Why exactly do we all end up accepting the order and the system? We should rebel. Sadly for me I only got here in 1982 and so I'm misplaced because my generation is the opposite to that of the 60s. We (apart from me it seems) just don't give a shit. Well, look at this album.. this is how we should all be, we shouldn't sell out on principles like peace and love.
****as for the title, Freewheelin', Blowin', and a bloody good job he's made of the album. Tenuous? Me? Ha. Well maybe.****...

Advantages: Best of Billy Idol songs on one collection Disadvantages: Doesn't include some of the decent later work
...I thinki this album is great to be honest. I'm not a great fan of all of the songs as I do tend to prefer Rebel Yell and White Wedding to all the others but still, this album shows that he can be a very versatile performer.
Heavier rock tendancies show in Rebel Yell and White Wedding, then you have the likes of Flesh For Fantasy which is definitely lighter.
All the tracks are good but as with most albums, there are only a couple of great tracks.
I do recommend that anyone knew to Idol buys this album but those who already enjoy his work should go for the later Greatest Hits CD. I was lucky enough to get the vinyl with an extra 4 track 12 inch which improved the package....

Advantages: A really mixed album Disadvantages: band will be short lived due to singers insanity
...be difficult to do so.
At times they are all garage (as in Nuggets, not bling bling) and caterwauling & guitar thrashing that reminds you of The Stooges or MC5 (good ol' Lester Bangs woulda loved 'em..).
See - Highly Evolved, Get Free, Outtathaway
Then the next track would sound like vintage Beatles (see Autumn Shade, and particularly Homesick), even adopting the same Lennon vocal echo, but only suggesting Beatles rather than adopting blatant copyism (Oasis please stand up..)
Ain't No Room sounds like a Warm Jets song..
Factory is classic Kinks..
1969 like the equally wonderful Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
other bits remind me of the Boo Radleys' masterpiece "Giant Steps"
I'm sure you could all throw other bands at me too, and I'd scratch my chin & pipe up "oh yeah!"
But as I said, it's not blatant plagarism or copycat.
It's suggestion...

Advantages: Some decent tracks, well written and decent vocals Disadvantages: A tad long in places, which detracts a little from certain tracks
...While last year seen The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club release their third album it also reminded me that I hadn't listened to the debut effort B.R.M.C. for quite a while. So having dusted it down and put it into the CD player it quickly reminded me just how good their debut was. It was released in late 2001 off the back of a couple of singles and very quickly the boys from San Francisco started to really make a name for themselves. It didn't take them long to break the UK and were pretty much an instant hit. The origin of the bands name comes from Marlon Brando's motorcycle gang in the film The Wild One.
The album was part of an American rock invasion that started earlier in the year with the Strokes and saw a number of bands arrive on our shores at the same time. Only a few had the tracks to back up the hype that followed and Black...
