I'm Invincible I'm Built Like A Sherman Tank Somebody Try And Stop Me - Mr. Shiraz

Advantages: Comedy lyrics
Disadvantages: manufactured boy band!

...I am not a huge fan of boy bands and pop...it's all a bit too 'manufactured' for me. However, the comedy lyrics of 5ive have somewhat enterecd my head and I am now, sadly, the owner of 'Invincible'. My friend and I have always laughed at 5ive's lyrics, simply because they are so much better than the usual boy band rubbish that is thrown out. I only really knew of the first four tracks on the album: If ya gettin down, Keep on Movin, Dont wanna let you go, and we eill rock you - the cover of the famous Queen track. I'm not really sure that I personally like the remainding songs on the album, but these four are top quality!! The 'rapping' is commendable, vocals are good and....the lyrics come with it!!! ...Hot Fuss-well-there definately was over this album. I heard infamous Killers track Mr.Brightside on the radio one day, like I am sure many potential buyers of this album have. I then found myslef singing it for the rest of the week. Who was that-what was that song? Well I found out on MTV it was a band called The Killers. Well, I grew to love the song, but did not consider actually going out and investing their album. But BAM! All of a sudden The Killers were everywhere and their album had shot to number 1, following the release 'Somebody told me'. This track had the same affect on me as Mr.Brightside did. With its catchy melody and Brandon Flowers unique voice, I began to relise maybe I should go get Hot Fuss. I was glad to find many wonderful tracks on there similar to M.B and S.T.M. ...is finding an appreciative audience amongst those who would not normally venture into such poppy new age territory. If "Long Long Journey" feels like a filler of a track compared to the majesty that surrounds it, it should be remembered that this is the sort of album that will be played as background music, its music to wash off the stress of a hard day as you sprawl on the sofa, glass of shiraz in hand, dreaming of distant places and unrealised ambition. Oh, that's just me then, but you know what I'm getting at. Its not music to be analysed too closely, unless of course you are writing a review of it that is. "Sumiregusa" is interesting, not least because it is based on a haiku poem by Basho and translates as Wild Violet. Again it is the minimal approach that pays dividends, the clean vocal sound contrasts with the more distant layered backing... Read review
