Pink returns to the music scene with new album 'I'm Not Dead', and i must say, it is pretty good!!!
The opening track is the first single, 'Stupid Girls'. It has an infectious guitar riff running through it, some great lyrics and equally good vocals. Also, if you have not seen the video for 'Stupid Girls', make sure you do because it is hilarious. A cracking song - 9.5/10
Track 2 is called 'Who Knew', and carries on the high quality offering that 'Stupid Girls' presents. Definitely not as good as track 1, but still a pretty decent song. Good, up-tempo track with catchy chorus. I give it 7/10
'Long Way To Happy' opens with moody piano staccato and synths, before Pink kicks in with the edgy vocal. This is a very good song, and yet again, is a track with a fantastic chorus. 7/10
Track 4 takes the tempo and mood down. The track is called 'Nobody Knows' and is a heartfelt ballad, consisting, at first of Pink
and a solitary piano. The drums kick in the chorus, but in my opinion spoil what at first was a beautiful song. Might be a grower, but seems a bit too contrasting between the different areas of the song. 5/10.
Next up is 'Dear Mr President'. This is another down-tempo track which sees Pink talking to the president about issues surrounding the world, and asking him about his life. From the music aspect, this isn't a very strong song, the verses are weak, the chorus is so-so, and the vocals are alright. The lyrics compensate for this, as they manage to bring up drugs, pregnancy and homosexuality, and do provoke thought. 4.5/10
'I'm Not Dead' is next up, and I love it!. It has a great opening and a very good vocal from Pink. The chorus is not brilliant, but is still good. This track is definitely one of the high points of the album. 8/10
Track 7 is 'Cuz I Can', and sees Pinks versatility shine through. The song has an electro-rock feel to it, and it works very well! It is another very good track, and I hope it is a future single! 8.5/10
Next track is the ironically titled 'Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely). It sees pink go back to a familiar pop/punk rock sound. This song is pretty damn good. It is melodically sound and has good lyrics and vocals. Good, up tempo track. 7.5/10
'U & Ur Hand' is next up, and is yet another great song. It has plenty of attitude and guitar riffs, with a catchy, pop chorus. 7.5/10
Track 10 is called 'Runaway'. It is a rocky, down-tempo track, and it is quite catchy. Not the best song on the album, but has good melodies. 6/10
Acoustic track 'The One That Go Away' is a good song, yet seems to lack the infectious enthusiasm of tracks like 'U & Ur Hand' or 'Stupid Girls'. This isn't a front runner, and seems a bit too mellow and all over the place for me. 5/10
I quite like 'I Got Money Now', which is the next track on the album. It is another down-tempo track, which doesn't try to be too big and textured, it's just a mellow, chilled out, easy listening track. 6/10
'Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self' is another weak point for me. It is a very original song, and has very contrasting dynamics running throughout, but seems a bit too different. It has grown on me a little after repeated listening, but it isn't really a fantastic song. 4.5/10
Track 14 is 'Fingers'. I can't decide whether I like this song very much or not, There are some good bits to it, but I can't really get to grips with it, it doesn't have the appeal of other tracks. Good, strong beat, and good vocals, but not a brilliant song.
The penultimate track is called 'Centerfold' and is a great way to start rounding of the album. it's a rocky, pop track with a great beat. The melodies are pretty good and its very catchy! 7.5/10
EXTRA TRACK 'I Have Seen The Rain' is something completely different from all of the other tracks on this album. It starts off with ink explaining the origin of the song - how her dad wrote it when fighting in Vietnam, and how it holds a special meaning to her. The song then commences and is a moving duet between her and her father, who also plays the acoustic guitar in this. There are some nice harmonies, and it rounds off the album very well. 8/10
Overall, I think the album has many strong points, but quite a few bits that don't really go anywhere. Still a good album though!!
That's my review, hope it helps :-D
