Pink's newest album and yet again she never fails to amaze us with some of the stuff she comes out with. Quite possibly the most controversial and hard hitting of her albums yet which will be explained on individual tracks. You cannot say that Pink is subtle, she far prefers to slam her menings over your head and hard...which quite possible works far better than subtle on many occassions.
Boring stuff Artist: Pink Title: I'm not dead - Controversial in itself - is she saying that her career is not dead considering that 'Try this' was not a brilliant success? Price: £6.99 Tracks: 16 including bonus tracks Genre: Pop/Rock Lyric Style: Controversial as usual!
Cover Art Interesting to say the least...appears to show Pink bursting out from a funeral wreath, mouth open mid song, and head adorned with a halo of stars...kind of fits with the I'm not dead idea...Rather wierd though...
Inset All the lyrics are there which is a big help for someone like me who likes to sing along...they're also easy to read...not impossible like some I've come across which really irritates me. Attractive enough, no problem with them.
Tracks 1. Stupid Girls; Time: 3 minutes 17 seconds Pink shows the way that this album is going to be in her first song alone, Stupid Girls is as scathing commentary on the popular idea of extra skinny females and celebrities. On first listening I didn't actually catch the hidden meaning of bulimia although it is very obviously slamming todays society. This isn't to be honest one of my favourite's on the album although my favourite line has to be:
"Disasters all around, A world in despair, Their only concern?, 'Will it f**k up my hair!?'"
5.5/10
2. Who knew; Time: 3 minutes 28 seconds I far prefered this song to the first, it has a catchier tune and beat, and although the lyrics are less scathing more people can relate to the meanings that this song puts forward. Lost love is something that most people have been through and come out of on the other side.
6/10
3. Long way To Happy; Time: 3 minutes 49 seconds Another
song about romantic break up and the subsequent recovery. Personally the lyrics aren't so striking as either of the earlier songs - more cliched than most of Pink's writen pieces and although I don't mind cliche it's not what I expect from Pink. This is more or less made up for by the very catchy tune but again I cannot call it a favourite...this may be because I base alot by the lyrics of a song.
5/10
4. Nobody Knows; Time: 3 minutes 59 seconds One of the best songs on the album, a highly emotional song about how nobody knows how she cries as she hides it. It starts very slow and soft in traaditional ballad style but just over 1 minute in it changes into a slightly more rocky beat, it gets faster and even more emotional as you go through the song and then suddenly slows again at the end back into the original form. Th contrasts between the different parts of the song work very well, making the listener sit up and take some notice. Favourite lyric:
'Nobody cares, it's win or lose not how you play the game.'
8/10
5. Dear Mr. President; Time: 4 minutes 33 seconds By God Pink overdid herself here, a polically charged, thought provoking song with a catchy chorus. She's put her all into this song and I think everyone would agree the words are killer. Anyone who supports Bush may have to skip this but for the the largest majority of us this really needed saying. She asks how he can sleep while the rest of us cry, how he dreams when mothers have lost their sons, what kind of father would take his daughters rights away or hate her if she were gay. One of her best criticisms and by far the most funny must be:
"You've come a long way...From whiskey and cocaine".
9/10
6. I'm Not Dead; Time: 3 minutes 46 seconds Pink speaking of relationships again but this is definitely not cliched in any way. Not a typical love song by any stretch of the imagination. Catchy tune and lyrics, this one I have to admit is very difficult to describe and it may be best just to listen to it. It's got a good beat and is easy to listen to without being amazingly thought provoking as some of hers are, well worth a listen.
8/10
7. Cuz I Can; Time: 3 minutes 43 seconds This is possibly my least favourite track on the album...it's got a decent beat to it, but the lyrics let it down too far to be reconciled by a moderately decent beat. Even the vocals aren't as good as it...seems just a little to screachy...as I said, poorest on the record. The only bit to really work with is the line 'My life is a fantasy' in typical Pink fasion...if she'd been more up front with this idea it would have been seen as preachy as hell...however her way of tossing the message in through the back window is clever and entertaining.
3/10
8. Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely); Time: 3 minutes 18 seconds This is a rather amusing and catchy piece of music showing the difficulties of a long term relationship. It's not the best on the album but due to the rather amusing lyrics works very well. Shows the complications of females that males have to put up with daily; "Go away, Come back, Go away come back, Why can't I just have it both ways. Go away, come back, Go away, Come back, I ish you knew the difference" kind of sums it up. It fits with the idea of I can't miss you if you're stil here! Amusing, easy listening...although perhaps a little bit explicit on the lyrics.

9. U + UR Hand; Time: 3 minutes 34 seconds Another rather amusing song which is getting at cheesy chat up lines that pick up artists use. Shows the independence that many women feel being undemined by a man - 'I'm not here for your entertainment.' A decent song with a 'nice' tune, not overly catchy although the lyrics may cause a few knowing smirks by those of us who have been there and done that.

10. Runaway; Time: 4 minutes 23 seconds My favourite song on the whole album...this may well be because it appeals to teenage angst...it is easy to relate with the idea of just disappearing in the middle of the night. The amount of times I've wondered how long it would take them to realise that I'm gone. It's one of those that does appeal purely because of the fact that it often seems easier to run. I think the most poignant two verses are: "I'm too young to be/Taken seriously/But I'm too old to believe/All this hypocrisy" and "It's hypocritical of you/Do as you say not as you do/I'll never be your perfect girl/I've got to run away" A song that very much appeals tp the younger generation...but perhaps the older generation should have a listen and remember that they probably used to feel that way themselves...
10/10
11. The One That Got Away; Time 4 minutes 42 seconds All I can say for this one is that it is easy listening...it's not bad but it's not good either. The tune isn't catchy, but it's not repulsive...the lyrics aren't brilliant and thought provoking...but they also don't make you cringe. It's not one that I'd pick to listen to...but when it comes on I don't automatically push the next button.
4/10
12. I Got Money Now; Time 3 minutes 55 seconds To begin with this song seems to be telling you that you don't need family or friends if you've got money..."You don't have to like me anymore, I've got money now". However you get the idea that she protesteth too much and that rather than be glad that she's not being called...it stings...This is supported by her simple line "Or so it seems", the truth shines through. A rather back handed slap at gross materialism. Very clever and easy to listen too.
7/10
13. Converstaions with My 13 yr Old Self; Time 3 minutes 50 seconds The adult Pink here now drops hints of advice on the younger teenage Pink...sounds as if her whole life is flashing before her eyes which kind of fits with the title of the album. It's an original idea and again appeals to my age group due to the teenage angstyness of it.
9/10
14. Fingers; Time 3 minutes 43 seconds One of the bonus tracks which is only on the English version of this CD. Interesting enough melody and bear but not one of her best and lyrics wise I can't see much point in it too be honest. Easy listening again but nothing special.
4/10
15. Centrefold; Time 3 minutes 47 seconds Another bonus track that is only on the UK versions of the CD...the lyrics are slightly better than the other bonus track but to be honest I can see why they are bonus tracks and not part of the main CD. They just don't come to the standard we have begun to expect from Pink, they just don't seem to have that ompf that i for one expect.
4/10
16. I've seen the rain; Time 3 minutes 29 seconds This is an amazing song and Pink has personalised it with 50 seconds of information at the beginning. Her childhood memories provide a perfect introduction. It's a very touching song based on the Vietnam war, sung by her father with her harmonising rather than doing lead vocal. It makes a welcome change from the rest of the album, very poignant and makes yet another very subtle knife jab at the American government. The harmonies are beautiful and it finishes the album perfectly.
8/10
In conclusion The album in itself is brilliant, and although there are a few flops which I really didn't appreciate Pink's greatest songs make up for every one of her blunders several times over. She uses brutal honesty and pure, raw emotion...but she does it with so much wit and style that no matter how much it gets under your skin the fun value is still high. Pink is definitely not dead.
Personally I couldn't ask for more.
