When Pink first arrived on the music scene, she was that delightful mix of spunky pop and rnb. Offering up a challenge to those of whom think that good pop music consists of breathy vocals and colourful dancing, she tore down the conventions of her genre. Debut album "Cant Take Me Home" didn't exactly set the charts on fire, but introduced us to the feisty combination that is Pink and Linda Henry (most famous for her own Whats Up screaming with 4 Non Blondes). Followed up by the sensational semi-biographical "Missundaztood", and the far less enriching flop "Try This", Pink has continued to grow and give us powerful vocals with toe tapping big guitar pop numbers. So on the arrival of her fourth album, has Pink still got the balls for tracks like "Just Like A Pill". The answer is absolutely, and more.
Opening with "Stupid Girls", the new album "I'm Not Dead" captures the imagination of its listener from the opening beat to
the closing bonus tracks. Reviewers use the sentence "Every track could be a single" far too loosely and far too often, but in this case, its absolutely on the money. New single "Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)" is heavy on the guitar sound, but even heavier with its melody. It is the best track on the album. "U and Ur Hand" is another highlight of the album for me, keeping the funky and stylish beats coming. Despite its heavy guitar theme, the album still manages to offer up enough variety to be eclectic. Soaring vocals pack a punch throughout the album, but most notable on "Who Knew" and the lovely ballad "Nobody Knows".
Where the album sometimes falters is in its thematic message. Offering everything up from spousal and parental abuse, through political stance against warfare, and on to eating disorders, the album verges on preachy at times. "Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self" is clearly autobiographical, a sort of telling off to herself as a teenager. Its probably the most poignant moment on the album, tender but firm. Dear Mr President features The Indigo Girls and is lyrically the most interesting song on the album. An out and out attack on George Bush, it poses the idea that somebody is speaking face to face with him and asking all the questions that so many listeners (especially ones who have lost family in Iraq) can relate to. It doesn't just query his stance on the war though, it also approaches the subject of homelessness and homosexuality and where he stands with those subjects. Most artists don't manage to get this subject across a whole album of songs, but not only does Pink manage it in one song, but she does it very tastefully. I dont neccessarily like pop stars who preach politics through the canvas of their songs, but when they actually speak out about something that we can all relate to, it can be thought provoking.
There are very few duds on this album. "Cuz I Can" is a bit dirgey, and lyrically the weakest song on the album. Its the song that most harks back to the funky origins of Pink's music, and yet manages to spoil an otherwise flawless album. There is also some ropey language on the album. The F*** word is prominent in tracks "Leave Me Alone" (edited out for the single version I believe), "'Cuz I Can", "Stupid Girls", although the album comes complete with the obligitory parental warning. Look out too for hidden track "I Have Seen The Rain" which features Pink's father James Moore. All in all, this is a brilliant collection of rocky pop songs. She continues to challenge the pop genre by adding something other than fluffy video's and shallow lyrics to her material. And whilst she certainly gives us something to think about, its hard not to put on a great big smile when listening to something this fun and quirky.
The official track list for this album is: Stupid Girls, Who Knew, Long Way To Happy, Nobody Knows, Dear Mr President, I'm Not Dead, Cuz I Can, Leave Me Alone, U and Ur Hand, Runaway, The One That Got Away, I Got Money Now, and Conversations with my 13 year old self. There is also a bonus version of the album which features 2 bonus tracks.

I'm sorry oneofus, have I done something to upset you. You've given me 4 rather unconstructive bad feedbacks in as many days. If you genuinely dont like my writing, then fair enough, but if its for some other reason, then thats not really fair.
