This review is about my time at the magnificent and luxury hotel the Burj Al Arab. I was lucky enough to spend two nights at this hotel during New Years Eve and New Years day 2008/2009. I had a friend who?s dad did a tone of import export business and thus I even managed to stay their for free, yes that?s right for free, under the condition that I paid for all my own food, and drink, which I was more than happy to at the time.
Now everyone has either heard about this hotel, been their or at least seen the pictures of what it looks like, and let me tell you its even more breathtaking in real life. This review will hopefully give you an insight into the hotel, information regarding all the rooms in particular the one I stayed in, what the facilities are like, what the food and bar is like as well as the service provided by the hotel ...
Advantages: For lovers of the film, the period or the music of John Barry. Disadvantages: A bit too easy listening for some
Cowboy" theme, a languid, melancholic instrumental with its sublime lonely harmonica introduction. This is memorably heard during the daydreaming sequences that Joe Buck has on his bus Journey to New York. Near the end of the film we here another well known Barry tune but perhaps not its lesser known title "Florida Fantasy". Some might be familiar with this bouncy instrumental as not only am I sure it's been used on at least one TV advert, but it was also used as the theme tune for a long-forgotten 1970s TV programme called "Wildtrack". In the film it is played during Rizzo's bus ride daydream about the life he will have upon his arrival in sunny Florida. Other Barry tracks include the languid western/cowboy orchestral piece "Joe Buck Rides Again", a short dramatic orchestral piece called "Science Fiction" and the laid back 'Fun City ...
Advantages: Easy to listen to Songs Disadvantages: CD2 a bit poor
will recognise this as the song that Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer use to welcome in Donald Cox the Sweaty Fox. Anyone who doesn?t know Shooting Stars must think I?ve gone round the twist. ?Fox on the Run? made it to No.5 on its release in 1969.
The Final Song released under the Manfred Mann mantle was ?Ragamuffin Mann? and it reached No.8 in the charts. The B-Side was used in an advert for cigars.
The 2nd CD is mostly made up of songs by Manfred Mann?s Earth Band. Although there are some less recognisable tunes they are still good in their own right.
?Blinded by the Light? is a worthy song, as is ?Davys on the Road Again?, both are lyrically clever. Add to this Mike D`abos ?Handbags and Gladrags? and an acceptable version of ?Nothing Ever Happens? and you have a Best of double CD set that you?ll play over and over again. ...
