Advantages: Brilliant British actors with a odd US expert thrown in. Disadvantages: Don't expect another Tarantino film.
they must now find a new buyer for the drugs. Perhaps outlandish night club owner Iki (Rhys Ifans) can come to their aid, or will the little band of nasty skinheads set about them before hand?
The reason I think this is more Beverley Hills than Snatch is that there is a definite play towards generating mainstream humour, whether that is the slapstick of the meeting with Durant or dumb ramblings of the police. This is a genuine laugh out loud film and not one where the humour is disguised. The filming style also is straightforward with no attempts at clever camera tricks although there are some nice shots generated. Likewise the plot is generally uncomplicated with no twist and turns of time and you never feel the story needs explaining.
Although the idea of making the main characters something of "an old couple" is nothing new, I do ...
Advantages: Some people would watch it just for Samuel L Jackson Disadvantages: Swearing, poor script
by wannabe gangster, the exotically named Felix DeSouza (Robert Carlyle), who introduces hime to a spaced out drug lord called Iki played by the normally brilliant Rhys Ifans, but this time even he seems to have totally lost the plot.
We see DeSouza taking Elmo to his mother's tiny 2 up 2 down terrace, and then discover that the assassin is connected to DeSouza, although I will not give anymore than that away.
Then for no real reason other than DeSouza is Liverpool mad, the plot centres around matchday at Anfield.
The humour is limited to a few one liners, and the action was diluted to say the least.
This film could have been an impressive debut from Pavlou, but it is just so jumbled up, and there are too many stories that we are introduced to, but that are never followed up, and Ronny Yu's direction seems to be as confused ...
Advantages: Excellent cast, Great Comedy, Good storyline Disadvantages: Not for those who dont like bad lanaguage and violence
