I will first state that The 'Illusion Of Safety' by Thrice is my favourite album of all time. To me, it is as close to perfection as any album has come within the whole punk/hardcore/post-hardcore/metal genre.
A short history:
This was Thrice's second major album, and I believe is their ... Read review

...with the release of 'The Illusion Of Safety' they showed that they had put a lot of work into their music and had become all the better for it. They had strayed away from the punk sound that their former album had been plagued with and they had become more of a post-hardcore/solid rock band. The album got a great deal of praise and sold very well and helped them establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the world of rock music. Their ... ...not to disappoint.
The Illusion Of Safety:
The album itself is very short, with few songs reaching the three minute mark. However, it certainly does not leave you feeling cheated out of your money - quite the opposite. You will look at the display on your CD player and think 'Woah, was that only 38 minutes?' This is because Thrice manage to fit so much into such a short space of time. They do what many bands take a career and several albums to ...

Advantages: Hardcore at its best Disadvantages: Not for the faint hearted
This has to be one of my all time favorite albums by Thrice. Hailing from America this is their second full album. It blends not a harsh tone with beautiful lyrics, not only does this sound awesome in the studio and live, it all helps the listener develope a relationship with the band, and feel the emotions the band feel in their lyrics.
The music is a slick blend of heavy undertones and fast clever guitar riffs which still enthrawl me today.
Sounds ... ...then again, it has its uniqueness and the more i listen to it the more these bands sound like Thrice rather than vice versa.
My favorite song has to be To Awake And Avenge The Dead, it has some of the most emotional guitar parts on the album,i believe the album could have ended here with the emotions running high, but it carries on and gets better finishing with the equally pumped up The Beltsville Crucible. Other good songs include Deadbolt and ...

Advantages: Great riffs, awsome drumming - just great hardcore Disadvantages: None
Thrice are fast becoming one of the biggest hardcore bands on the planet today, and this is arguably their finest offering. Featuring some amazing riffs accompanied with meaningful and memorable vocals this album is a must have for any hardcore fans. Some of the stand out tracks on the album have to be "The Red Death" and the single "Deadbolt". There is a wide variety of tracks featured on the album, everything from the fast paced "To Awake and Avenge ...

Advantages: A great album Disadvantages: Different to their old stuff
...containing far more lyrical depth than everything the band have ever written before put together. I genuinely think that the band have spent a lot of time writing and planning for this release as they are musically sound here and lyrically sublime.
Tracks such as 'Hold Fast Hope,' 'Music Box,' and 'Of Dust and Nations' will remind hardcore Thrice fans of the music of old and will probably put a smile on their face for nostalgic value. Sure, these songs don't have as much bite as their counterparts in 'The Illusion of Safety' or 'The Artist in the Ambulance,' however they still contain a lot of bite and I feel that they are much better written tracks than anything that appeared on either of these albums.
I remember way back when receiving a 'The Illusion of Safety' album sampler and being mightily impressed with what I heard. Back in 2002...
