Album Notes: This superb box set collects tracks from John Coltrane's legendary Impulse albums. Coltrane recorded for Impulse! in the early 1960s, an important transitional period that found him moving from the sinuous post-bop of MY FAVORITE THINGS to straightforward balladry (BALLADS) and freer modal arrangements and experiments (AFRICA/BRASS). On the 26 tracks on this box, Coltrane treats standards ("It's Easy to Remember"), traditional tunes ("Greensleeves"), jazz classics (Ellington's "In a Sentimental Mood"), and originals with his inimitable touch. The quality of the musicianship (the set features McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, and Eric Dolphy, among others) is impeccable. The recordings are modern marvels, and everything about the music still comes across as pure inspiration.
Advantages: beautiful Irish classic voice Disadvantages: the old irish classic abit over played
...When I put this album on it really sparked a great emotion and pride inside to be Irish. John McCormack sings these Irish classics with a powerful mans voice that really brings your imagination into the heart and sole of the music.
This album is a peacful and relaxing trip down memory lane.John McCormack's singing style combines the beatiful melodys of a classical trained voice with the stricking sound of a strong Irish accent. This gives the album its uniqueness and gives it the storytelling quality that brings the peotic lyrics to life.
This album is great value for money with up to eighteen tracks each track a popular classic of its own.
The only issue with this album is it does contain all the classic Irish songs that are quite old and have been over played abit over the years....

Advantages: Some of the all time best jazz saxophone ever. Disadvantages: Some ommissions.
...The Very Best of JohnColtrane
Some folks in commenting on a previous review wanted me to review some 'hard jazz'; well here goes.
This was just one of the 'best of' or 'greatest hits' type albums, of several that have been issues since the great mans death at the tender age of 41. It seems that the saxophone 'greats' die young and tragically; Charlie Parker, Albert Ayler.
Although primarily a tenor player, he also played an awful lot of soprano (as on much of this album) and occasionally alto and clarinet, though I've not heard much of this.
He was an absolute giant amongst jazz saxophonists, and along with Parker, probably (though in different ways) the most influential saxophonist ever. He played with many of the greats too, in fact some of his collaborations with Miles Davies (trumpet) such as Bye Bye Blackbird, have...

Advantages: A good mix of songs Disadvantages: Doesnt help you get through the housework
...A cd thats a couple of years old now but still fun to listen to.
I mean this cd says its meant to help you through the housework but I personally dont think it really does,if anything it distracts you, because you just start singing along to all the great tracks this album has to offer, you get caught up in the music and completely lose track of what you were doing - maybe a good thing in a way :-)
Housework vol1 is a double album that has some cracking songs that you just dont seem to hear on the radio anymore such as The Beach Boys - Help Me Rhonda and Don McLeans - American Pie.
The songs on this album just make you feel good and really help to lift your spirits, but I honestly think its marketed wrong, this is a feel good album for anyone just not people doing the housework.I dont think the title of the album really represents...
