I bought this album after a friend of mine had suggested that it was something i would like. He had downloaded one of Jack Johnson's songs for his homepage and after a listen I knew that it was something that I had to buy!
I really enjoy listening to lots of different sorts of music depending on what mood I am in and this is an album that can be listened to anywhere and any time.
I got this album from HMV and it cost a whopping £11.99 but what more do you expect when buying from HMV!
Jack Johnson on this album, In Between Dreams works along side bass player, Merlo and drums player, Adam Topal. His official website is jackjohnsonmusic.com.
Jack Johnson's music is basically him singing in laid back style, slightly like that of James blunt but less whiney, and his guitar. Some lyrical are well put together and the music would be good for anyone's ears.
Jack Johnson was born in 1975 in Hawaii. He has grown up as a surfer under the influence of his father a famous Hawaiian surfer. After Jack's surfing career was cut short at the Pipeline Masters, ages 17, when he had a near death experience when he crashed into a massive reef, he started a career in filmmaking and soon became a surf film director. In 2001 Jacks songs were shown to Ben Harpers producer, JP Plunier, and quickly Jack had made a name for himself.
Track Listing
1. Better Together - this is a great start t the album and gives the listener a really good taste of the sort of music that is to come in the rest of the album. 9/10
2. Never Know - again this is a lyrically great song with well written words which match the guitar music well. 8/10
3. Banana Pancakes - this to me, is the most catchy song that is on the whole album. I have since learnt the music and its one of my favourites to play. 10/10
4. Good People - this is a song that was released into the charts and most people may be familiar with it. Again the lyrics that accompany this great piece of music are sublime. Its true, where have all the good people gone? Ciao perhaps? 10/10
5. No Other Way - continually this album gives us well written songs against well written music and this is no exception. 8/10
6. Sitting, Waiting, Wishing - This is one song that is among my favourite on this album and again i think was released into the charts.
7. Staple it Together - This is probably the most lively track on the album and again this is one of my top songs. Jack Johnson sets a more upbeat and summertime feel with this song but it still fits well into the style of the album.
8. Situations - this is another great tune with the same laid back feeling f the whole album and what appears to be the "Jack Johnson" style.
9. Crying shame - this is one song that i am not too keen on. It is really my least favourite off the whole album. It is still one I would listen to and I never skip the track when listening to the album in my car. It still has both good music and good lyrics, but it is a little whiney for me.
10. If I could -
11. Breakdown - This is another top pick of mine as the lyrical genus that is Jack Johnson puts together these great lyrics with unforgettable tunes
12. Belle - I am not that keen on this tune it seems to be different in some way than other tracks on this album and for some reason i am not blown over by it like I am the rest. 6/10
13. Do You Remember - another great tune all round.
14. Constellations - this i think is the first song i was shown by my friend and is now my total favourite off the whole CD. One that i cant seem to get out of my head!
Overall this album is one to buy for anyone as it really is non-offensive, easy listening but with a laid back vibe. It has great music and is lyrically brilliant.
I would give this album all in all 10/10 because so many people would appreciate the songs which are shared with us by Jack Johnson.
