Yup.....do you remember? Well, I could still remember when I first acquired my cd by jack johnson. I came about it when I went to a music store and they were playing the song. It took me a while until I was able to figure out who the singer was. And the price was high then. I am a stingy person so I waited until the prices dropped down. Once I had the CD I opened the casing and started playing it in my cd player. I even downloaded it on my computer so as if I am using it I could listen to the music.
Cover and packaging: To be quite honest I was not able to ascertain how Jack Johnson looked like. Do not get me wrong but the cover of the album bore a shadow of a man with a guitar reaching a tree as if it was getting something from the tree. The background is yellow. For a start if I just base my buying to the cover I will not personally buy it but again I was not interested in the packaging. By the way the one that I bought was simply a cardboard protecting
the CD.
Lyrics:
Better together> As the title suggests the lyrics of the song connotes how Jack perceives relationship that it is better together rather than seperately living. How it is nice to have dreams shared with someone and that you could live with it. I think the words are cool...especially under the mango tree.(Uhmm I think it is a mango tree depicted in the cover)
Never know> The wording of this song depicts how unpredictable life is and in the way Jack Johnson see it. 'the metaphor---sink or swim'...were just humans....By listening to the lyrics I could relate to the unexpected things that had occurred in my life and the uncertainty of the future.
Banana pancake> What a title?! The lyrics says how someone is enjoying a relationship with his lady and how he pampers her with banana pancakes. Banana pancakes?! I have not tried it yet but the composition is nice.Have you tried it?
Good people> Lyric is all about the declining numbers of good samaritans in the world. You wonder and ask the same question Jack Johnson is asking---'Where are the good people go?' ....It strongly suggests that the world is getting callous and people are getting are superficial and going going going gone. Seem a little political and social in theme.
No other way>Again this one tackles how decision making is especially in a relationship. Some paradoxical remarks which made me realize things.
Sitting, waiting, wishing>The lyrics are cool man. Rhyming in the sense of the words and that it explains some people like me who usually am waiting and wishing. Hope that I won't be sitting for long. Hehehe.
Staple it together>Here the lyrics tackle how someone is stuck somewhere in the past that is greatly affects the future of him. Now, stapling it together is not the smoothest transition but that is how life goes...and if in you are in a worst part then call it a bad weather.
Situations>I like this most in the album. How can someone on earth give you situations like this when sometimes we people are short sighted that we do not want to look all the angles of the predicament. Open our minds...
Crying shame> If you have heard the lyrics you might play this one to your missus or your partner. Anyways...
If i could>I was touched with the lyrics of this song. Moving. If you could...would you do good? I would.
Breakdown>Lyrics tell a story who wants to have some time with himself rather have a high speed life. Symbolism is so much in this song.
Jack J incorporates his music like an acapella like songs with the strum of the guitars. Usually hit with people who love the guitar as an accompaniment. I loved the way the guitar sounds blend with his voice. The lyrics are full of moral compared to those song that does not make song. Well, to be honest it is more of a serenading song. I could not compare this album to Jack J's other albums because this is the only album I have got.
Is it a value for money? Well, I personally thinks that it is value for money. I bought it around the region of 10 pounds but now it is selling less below it. So grab yourself a bargain. If you are fond of pop music then this is cool. I am still playing it in my old mp3 player.
Would I be fed up listening? I hope not. Will enjoy it until I am fed up.
