Having wrapped filming on Trouble In Mind, Alan Rudolph went to work on his next movie. Having been inspired by Divine's performance as someone not in the movie too much, but having a presence across the whole piece. He sought out an unusual character for one of his key players in his next movie Made In Heaven. Divine declined the offer to follow Rudolph into this project having already agreed to work on Hairspray with his old buddy John Waters. Made In Heaven is a romantic drama entertaing a thought that you can love the same person in both Heaven and on the Earth. Review of Made In Heaven (DVD)

heavenly voices

Advantages: beautifully blissed out
Disadvantages: short lived

While they didn't hit the big time with their earlier albums Verve as they were once known released an amazing debut in the form of A Storm in Heaven. There were early signs of greatness in their ability to create haunting and ethereal soundscapes. Heavily effected vocals and guitars blend with simple but effective rhythms. Richard Ashcroft had the vocal power to rise way above the music but the whole package complimented each part perfectly. There are no anthems to rival those of A Northern Soul, and nothing as commercial as Bitter Sweet Symphony, but the dreamy sounds make up for the lack of radio friendly singles. In fact the dreamy sounds are better than any of the radio friendly singles. To the average listener this album may be a little bit difficult to get into. But once you're in, you will be hooked. Who will you meet in Heaven?

Advantages: Wonderful though-provoking, lesson-learning,heart-warming book.
Disadvantages: Too quick to read!

The Five People You Meet in Heaven is written by Mitch Albom and was published in 2003. Mitch Albom is the author of the bestseller "Tuesdays with Morrie" a wonderful true story which I also thoroughly recommend. The author was prompted to write this novel in tribute to his Uncle Edward who used to speak "of a night in hospital when he awoke to see the souls of his departed loved ones sitting on the edge of the bed, waiting for him..... Everyone has an idea of heaven, as do most religions, and they should all be respected. The version represented here is only a guess, a wish, in some ways, that my uncle, and others like him - people who felt unimportant here on earth - realise, finally, how much they mattered and how they were loved."
