Advantages: Brilliant listening, brilliant watching. Disadvantages: More pictures, maybe a little poster would be good.
...In The Tubestation to less well known songs like Fever and But Im Different.
All the songs are fantastically performed by lead singer..Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton playing bass and Rick Buckler on the drums.
Now. Aswell as two fantastic CD's this also comes with a DVD that lets you see the jam in action for 11 whole tracks....including In The City, News Of The World, Start! and Absoloute Beginners...marvellous!
As well as two CD's with 49 jam songs and the DVD with 11 tracks on you also get a little booklet that contains some information about how they started, influences and what they are doing now. The booklet also contains images of the band aswell as track listings.
An extremley good buy if your a jam fan or even if you dont know much about them and would like an insight into thier music....

Off form Review ofThis Is The Modern World - Jam (The)by

Advantages: A couple of good tracks Disadvantages: Definitely not at their best
...After the adrenaline rush of their debut In The City album in 1977, The Jam seemed to lose their way somewhat. There were two more single sthat year: All Around The World, which reached number 13, and The Modern World, which borrowed a riff from the Who’s Pictures Of Lily and stuck at number 36.
There was also a second, very uninspiring album, This Is The Modern World, which appeared that November. Weller was having trouble producing songs and a lot of the stuff being generated was written by Bruce Foxton.
The artwork from the album was distinctly pop art and very Sixties in style - the music was likewise and The Jam were in grave danger of going the way of most one hit wonders. The fire and inspiration with which they had started seemed to be gone and they were living very much on Pete Townshend licks. It was a shapeless...

Advantages: Seminal album tracks and most hits included; bigger picture than most compilations Disadvantages: key singles missing and a weak alternative version of 'That's entertainment'
...The compilation is a true musical journey starting with The Jam as a punk band with fast, exciting drums, power chords and a loud bass so typical of the late 70s punk era on hits such as 'In the city' and ending with the more commercial, soulful Jam of the early 1980s with songs like 'A Town called malice,' which has a bassline reminiscent to the Motown classic 'You Can't Hurry Love.'
Lyrically The Jam were a stage apart from their contemporaries due to their somewhat cynical and political expression about life in London. The Jam are best remembered for their anthems such as 'Going Underground' today (which are featured) but this compilation is excellent because it showcases some of their best album tracks as well. The Jam's album tracks are truly where even during the height of punk, Mr Weller's ability to write from the soul...
