The Tourists were a power pop outfit whose brightest moment was the Dusty Springfield cover, I Only Wanna Be With You, which made number 5 in 1979. After they split up, their driving and creative force, Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox formed a new partnerships with the Eurythmics, which took a very different approach to the Tourists.

Blondie drummer Clem Burke fleshed out the sound and the LP displayed a wide range of styles, from passionate pop to avant garde electronics. The uptempo feel of the music was often undercut by Annie’s moody, aching lyrics and powerful vocals, as in the track Never Gonna Cry Again; this effect was to be a characteristic element in her later work.
The LP was not a commercial success, however, and was very much a first attempt, with their sound not as sharply honed as it was eventually to become.
Advantages: All albums in one box! And extra things - live tracks etc Disadvantages: Any true fan would PREFER all singles, b-sides, everything lol! but hey what can you do. Also - no 1984
First of all, Let me just state that I am a huge Eurythmics fan - i just love them. Now obviously, if you dont really like the Eurythmics, then, well, this probably isn't for you! But if you do like them, if you love songs like "Sweet Dreams", "There Must Be an Angel", "sisters are doing it for themselves" and so on - well, you should certainly buy this.
The box is very pretty - Black, with 'Eurythmics' in one side then loads of songs printed artistically.
The albums themselves are in 8 digipacks - cool CD cases, which unfold and have lots of cool extra artwork that weren't necessarily in the original albums. Also inlay cards with info about the albums. Each album also has a few bonus tracks on. Did I mention how beautiful Annie and Dave are?
The only down side is the lack of '1984' - in my opinion one of their best records. This ...
Advantages: On the edge Disadvantages: Still forming
After the release of their first album, In the Garden, in 1981, Eurythmics, the band made up of Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox, moved back to London to begin writing new material and recording it on an eight track in their rooms above a picture framer?s in Chalk Farm. They played most of the instruments themselves, beating picture frames against the wall to create the disco clacking effect on Sweet Dreams and a local cafe proprietor?s breathings to add atmosphere to Love Is A Stranger.
Costing a mere £8000 to produce, the resulting album, Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), released in 1982, launched the second stage of their career. The title track combined commercial appeal, an insistent dancefloor beat and strong vocals to make it one of the most successful singles of early 1983, rising to number 2 in the UK chart. It?s a classic ...
