Advantages: Brilliant rhyming text & vibrant illustrations Disadvantages: None
It has to be said that this book is a firm favourite with the Nursery and Reception children at my school and you can guarantee some happy faces when this is the chosen book for that 'spare' five minutes.
~ The Book ~
In short, the book invites children to enter the jungle and meet the animals that live there.
It begins with:
'There's a rumble in the jungle,
There's a whisper in the leaves,
The animals are waking up
And rustling the leaves.
The hippo's at the waterhole,
The leopard's in his lair,
The chimpanzees are chattering
And swinging everywhere.
Some animals are frightening,
And some are sweet and kind,
So let's go to the jungle now
And see what we can find.....'
So as you can see from the initial text, the author is inviting the children to join him in the jungle, searching for different kinds ...
Advantages: Some great 70's and 80's tracks Disadvantages: May just be for disco (and similar style) fans
I've been a very naughty girl recently spending obscene amounts of money treating myself, disgraceful aren't I! Ok, so when I say obscene amounts of money I actually mean the grand sum of £2.10 and when I talk about treating myself, well it was on a 2nd hand CD on Ebay, but who cares about the minor details eh! So what was the must have CD that tempted me to spend such a huge wad of cash? Well it was Earth, Wind & Fire Lets Groove, once again proving my musical taste is much older than my age.
Earth, Wind & Fire are an American band formed in the very late 60's who released some classic 1970's Disco hits and some 80's classics with a bit more of a R&B edge. The band have seen many line up changes over the years and have released nearly 40 albums which include studio albums, live recordings and compilations, their singles tally is over ...
Advantages: Los of bangers Disadvantages: One weak cut
In 1988 (a highly significant year for the Hip Hop world) the Jungle Brothers (consisting of Mike Gee, Afrika Baby Bam and Sammy B) made their debut as they released ?Straight Out Of The Jungle? and dropped an innovative album that would take on what De La Soul had started with the Jazz Rap material, but they would not only use this Jazz sampling as backing, as they would go to other alternative genres to create the perfect sound (as the New Yorkers even get down to a little Chicago-styled Hip-House).
1. ?Straight Out Of The Jungle?
The album kicks off with a tune which is seen to sample some classic material from JamesBrown, and with such funky work to build up the listenerss with, you really can?t help but feel excited by what they do here. The flows are fresh and they tae on the what was the new style of the time whilst taking ...

Includes liner notes by Cliff White. IN THE JUNGLE GROOVE documents one of the most important periods in the development of James Brown's music. In 1970, Brown's bandleader/sax player Maceo Parker departed to form his own band, taking much of Brown's group with him. This event heralded the arrival of the JB's, which included monster bassist Bootsy Collins, whose hyperkinetic style made Brown's funk harder, leaner, and meaner. This album gives listeners a bird's-eye view of the change, featuring the final sessions of the Maceo-led band as well as the first recordings of Bootsy and the JB's. Maceo and company were at their hardest and funkiest at this point, as seen on "The Funky Drummer," where Clyde Stubblefield lays down the drum break that would launch a thousand hip-hop samples. Stubblefield stuck around long enough to be part of the first JB's, whose tracks here are full of frenetic, barely controlled energy. The sense of joy and revelation in the groove is audible in these orgasmically polyrhythmic sessions. Collins and Stubblefield lay down some of the heaviest grooves in the history of recorded music. As Brown himself observes on the aforementioned Maceo-era "Funky Drummer," "it's a mutha!"
Album Reviews
Vibe (12/99, p.158) - Included in Vibe's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century - "He was already Soul Brother No.1 when he and his band were inventing funk, which makes early-'70s tracks like 'Give It Up or Turn It Loose' so amazing..." Mojo (9/03, p.118) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...The remastered and remixed tracks on JUNGLE GROOVE revealed the infinite variety he and his band discovered in funk work-outs..."
