This In The Night Garden business seems to have taken over my house somewhat. We have books, cuddly toys, puzzles, DVDs, sticker books and a new addition to our worryingly ever-growing collection, the In The Night Garden music CD. Harry is just in love with this bloomin' show, and especially its song which his Daddy and I have to sing on repeat when we put him to bed, so I thought investing in the CD might be a good idea!
As you probably know by now, In The Night Garden is the latest children's TV show to take the UK's toddler by storm, and is the obsession of 1-4 year olds across the country. You can buy hundreds of In The Night Garden products at the moment, and this CD is one of the newer additions to the ITNG product range, coming on the market in November, just in time for Christmas! A coincedence? I think not...
This CD contains the original songs which make it into the television show, so it is music which is going to be instantly recognisable to anyone who watches the show. I like that all the songs are included as I can choose to play either Harry's favourite songs or just let the CD run right through and let him listen to the lot if I'm feeling particularly generous or in a good mood. It is called "A Musical Journey", presumably because it takes us on a journey through the Night Garden introducing its characters and all the music featured on the show.
The cover artwork isn't particularly eye-catching which I was surprised by. I would have expected it to show an enormous picture of one of the characters on the front to grab the attention of toddlers walking by but instead, it features a navy blue sea scene, much like at the start of the programme, with a small and slightly under-stated picture of some of the main characters, Upsy Daisy, Iggle Piggle and Makka Pakka. It is quite a classy looking cover and isn't too bright and garish on your shelf either.
The CD actually contains 25 tracks, but I am not going to sit here and write an individual review of each of the 25 tracks. There is actually a reason for this. The reason is that most of the tracks aren't much longer than 1 or 2 minutes, with just a few reaching over this time scale. The shortest track is just 19 seconds long, with the longest being 7 and a half minutes, almost telling a story within its track! Actually, after looking I can tell you that just 7 of the 25 tracks are over 2 minutes in length, which explains why the albums total length is just 46 minutes long (luckily for us parents who have to listen to it on repeat!).
The main tracks which will interest the children have to be the individual songs for the characters. The CD features the songs for each of the 4 main characters, as well as the more minor characters. "Hello Iggle Piggle", "Hello Upsy Daisy", "Hello Makka Pakka!" and "Hello Pontipines" feature on the CD, as well as "It's The Tombliboos House", "The Haahoos", "Oh No! It's the Ninky Nonk" and "The Pinky Ponk". The first 4 songs I mentioned are the songs for the characters in the show, and you'll soon be singing along.
There is also 4 short songs, called "The Tittifers Verse 1" and goes from verse 1 through to verse 4. These are 20 second interludes which are shown as birds in the show, and to be honest sound a bit of a noise to me. A few of the songs are more like mini-stories. "Everybody loves Jumping", "Upsy Daisy Kisses Everything In The Garden", "Catch Makka Pakka's Og-Pog" and "Iggle Piggle goes for a walk" all feature music, but also narration taken from the show by Derek Jacobi, which is easy to follow.
As well as these songs, the CD also features the shows opening theme and its closing theme, which are lovely classical music pieces, and my favourites on the CD. They have also included "Time To Go To Sleep", a narrated piece of music with the characters being put to bed, and "The Night Garden Dance" which is also shown towards the end of every episode. Most of the pieces on the CD will be easily recognisable, and it is this which makes the CD so enjoyable to listen to, especially for your children who will delight in listening to their favourites songs over and over and over again.

As you can see, I haven't included a description for every single song as some of them are purely either classical music pieces or similar to other tracks I have mentioned. The album is lovely to listen to, and is good for putting on near bedtime, especially when you put some of the more classical based pieces on on a quiet volume. Although it is only 46 minutes long, you get all the main songs from the show and quite a few extras as well, but even just the basic tracks would keep Harry happy!
You can buy the CD in the shops, and Amazon are selling it £8.98 (plus postage). It's a good one for any In The Night Garden, and is actually pretty good for a children's musical album.

Advantages: A great mixture of soothing songs Disadvantages: None to mind
In the Night Garden is a wonderful magical place for children where between being awake and asleep a new world is open for chilren to explore. With characters such as Iggle Piggle, a loveable blue character who is never without his red blanket, and Makka Pakka with bike in tow and a horn that blows loudly to everyone, your child cannot help but be enthralled and caught up in the fun that is "In the Night Garden"

She is an ever happy with recogniseable coloured spiky hair and bright clothes that are mismatched but bold and endearing. Her favourite past time is to dance around the Night Garden whilst inflating her skirt - she has a cord she can pull that inflates her skirt with air -she dances with this and then when she is finishd she pushed the cord and it deflates back to a normal skirt. In the Night Garden - a musical journey - the album. Is just what it is.
I bought this cd for my 2 year old daughter who absolutely loves the tv programme on Cbeebies, every night at 6.20. It cost £7.99 from Tesco, but I am sure it is available in other shops and definately from Amazon.
I put it on in the car the other day when she was bored and we were on a long journey. Her face did light up.
It is one cd on for 45 minutes made by BBC music. ... ...very handy for putting on in the car. The cd starts with the opening theme, to then take a journey on the Ninky Nonk, meeting Igglepiggle, then Upsey Daisy, Tombiloos, Makka Pakka, Pontipines, Pinky Ponk, and the Haahoos. The Tittifers sing their tunes between every section. It has the full Night Garden Dance before going to In the Night Garden closing theme. My two year old was singing away in the back of the car and it really cheered her up and ...

i haven't yet purchased this album but i will be in the near future. It cost £7.99 from Tesco, but I am sure it is available in other shops and definately from Amazon.

this CD will keep children occupied for hours and will teach your child to sing and dance with all the characters.
The only problem is it does get a bit monotonous after your have heard it for about the fifth time, but thats what children enjoy.
its great for a passing time activity for the children while you are at work, making tea, or just relaxing with them
i think Its well worth ...

A lovely collection of songs that helps me get my three year old daughter off to sleep!
And so, for that i am very grateful.
Instantly recognisable as coming from the hit programme, my daughter instantly recognised the songs / music and their origin etc and it helps alot at night-times, when it can be quite hard to get her to sleep.
I find it helpful to pop it on during the day too, while she is playing with her toys, as it dont like having the ...
