After watching Jessica Simpson on MTV's Newlyweds I thought she was adorable! She was funny, ditzy and loveable. I briefly remembered her singles from a few years ago but as she came out at the same time as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera I didn't really take much notice.
The show not only followed her marriage but her revival of her career. When I heard her sing again I was immediatly stunned at how powerful it was. With her new found celebrity status she would have no trouble with Britney overshadowing her.
I brought "In This Skin" from Amazon.co.uk for £11.99 it hadn't yet been released in the shops and Amazon is usually cheaper anyway. The front cover features a very natural looking picture of Jessica as this album is about being natural and pure emotion.
There are 14 tracks on the album, the first being a cover of our very own Robbie William's classic
"Angels".... The track is taken to new levels, not only is it done with equal emotion to when Robbie performs it, but the powerful voice makes it stand out that much more... The lyrics are altered so everytime it was hinting it was about a woman she changes it to be about her husband Nick Lachey who all the songs on this album are dedicated to. It's a great start to the album although critics have said she slaughtered the song but personally I love it and hope she releases it as a single.
The second track is "With You" which was the first release from this album in the UK. The song is, as all the songs on the album are, about love and this is a song about feeling comfortable with the one you love and not having to have superficial things to feel loved and wanted. Some of the lyrics in the verse can be a bit cheesy, "Wish I could save the world like I was supergirl" but that's the ditzyness that her fans have grown to love coming through. The chorus however is catchy and good to sing a long to and saves the song.
The next track is another cover... "Take My Breath Away" and it is her second release over here. Again it is another track that has benefitted from her vocals. The song originally was powerful and she has added her own spin on it and made it a tad soulful. At first I didn't like this track but it has grown on me overtime and now I really like it.
I'm going to move on to my favourite song now... "Sweetest Sin" I liked it after I saw her making the video in Newlyweds and after hearing the full version I liked it even more. It has a sort of sexual, mysterious feel to it and Jessica sings of being proud of her sexual nature and finally giving away her virginity after marriage. With lyrics such as "Your lips upon my lips, your fingertips on my fingertips, your skin against my skin would be the sweetest sin". It's a beautiful song and easily the best on the album.
The other tracks I haven't mentioned are... My Way Home I Have Loved You Forbidden Fruit Everyday See You Underneath You Don't Have To Let Go Loving You In This Skin Be With You (Accoustic Version)... This by the way sounds much better than the earlier one, the guitars really make it mellow and calm.
The bonus DVD features scenes from Nick & Jessica's wedding, it shows the couple getting ready and the ceremony. It really was a fairytale wedding and watching it made me want to get married! They look so happy and it all looked so beautiful!
The final feature on the DVD is Newlyweds Scenes from Season1. This is all the best bits shown in an old cinema style. The best bits include Jessica asking if tuna is chicken or fish, being asked if she wants some buffalo wings and replying "No thanks I don't eat buffalo", and her romantic get-away to san diago swimming with dolphins. The DVD lasts 13 minutes.
This album is definitly one for the girls as it is all about love and adoration for that special man in your life.
I'd reccomend it to all her fans and pop lovers, it's a great album and I'm gutted because my CD scratched and skips on Angels :o( Ahh well life goes on!

shes hilarious on newlyweds :P, can't really say much about the angels cover except it being horrible sounds like shes trying to hard and it shows.

A little more info would be good - on her as well as on the tracks on the CD... let me know if you do edit it at all! Love her in the programme The NewlyWeds though, Sarah x
