"In This Skin" is probably not Jessica Simpson's best album. I have been a fan for 5 years and even though her latest effort isn't as good as "Sweet Kisses", i would like to commend on her efforts in co-writing her songs, which is not too shabby actually but just not good enough to justify her brilliant emo vocals. If Jessica's voice was a romance movie, i would cry buckets. I think its only subjected to girls who are sentimental like me. It seems that when she opens her mouth and sings, theres just some kind of feeling in the air that brings tears to my eyes. And that is what i think a good singing voice should evoke on a listener. Sometimes, not being able to write your own songs isn't a bad thing. Jessica Simpson has a voice, a beautiful powerful voice that is all feminine. I believe that if she sings the songs written by those who wrote her first hit single, "I wanna love you forever", its only then she will carve a niche for herself and sing exactly what she was meant to sing - Love Ballads. I do hope that she will go into the Celine Dion route and just let people write for her. She has the "thing" to be able to interpret emotions through words of others. And i really think that it is amazing. ;)
In This Skin does have a couple of good tracks but to be brutally honest, they can be quite forgettable. "With You" is a popular track and its co-written by her and probably the best track she co-written, but again the song doesn't justify her vocals at all. "My Way Home" shows off a bit of her vocal range at the last bridge where she holds a note for like 15 seconds - really impressed. The problem why UK listeners dont find Jessica Simpson's music friendly is because (no offence) they are more interested in clubbing and one night stands then to find one true love. I am sure that romantic people will give Jessica Simpson's music a good listen. "I have loved you" is a potential big ballad but the way it was written didn't justify Jessica Simpson's vocals. "Sweetest Sin", written by Diane Warren is a romantic song to make love to and averagely shows off her talented voice.
In terms of sentimental value and personal taste, "Be" is my favourite track. Its a straightforward, nothing to read between the lines song. Its that kind of simple song that you just can't help but fall in love with. Especially when she sings this bit in the song "And i know and i know and i know love can move a mountain. And i know and i know and i know its gonna be better than i imagined. Putting all my trust in you, Putting all my trust in you, we will make this dream come true...." She manages to make these lyrics sound so deep with her voice. I don't know if its only me who feels this way but that few lines always makes me cry. And thats the beauty of Jessica Simpson's voice.
So, get in this skin if you support Jessica Simpson's love for "Love" and celebrate the beauty of love together with her beautiful voice that speaks nothing but LOVE LOVE LOVE. ;) However, i reccomend these tracks as Jessica's best songs throughout her 3 albums. (mostly ballads) - They are my favourites anyway

Be (In This Skin) 8. I Have Loved You (In This Skin) 9. Sweetest Sin (In This Skin) 10. Part of Your World (brilliant song she did for the Disney Soundtrack)
