'In With The Out Crowd' is the most recently released album from Less Than Jake. At two years old it isn't exactly 'brand new' any more, but the newest nonetheless and will remain so until they release their eighth studio album later this year. It is my least favourite of all of the albums from the Floridian Ska Punk band Less Than Jake and in truth is not one that I hold in particularly high regard at all. That said, it is by no means a bad album, it's just not a great one.
The album is really rather lacklustre and none of the tracks present are particularly exciting at all. The first single lifted from this album was 'Everything Is Overrated' for example which in itself is a really average track. The sad thing is that it is probably one of the highlights from the album and nothing really shines through too much. All twelve tracks are rather disappointing and all the excitement that is usually present in a Less Than Jake release seems to have been removed. The music is not too different to their older material, it just lacks life and is therefore a little on the dull side to listen to. I had been quite excited when the album was released, but this excitement was short lived and soon replaced with complete shock and utter disappointment.
'Everything Is Overrated' is perhaps a gross overstatement on behalf of the band, but it is certainly true that their 'In With The Out Crowd' is greatly overrated. It is their least impressive album, and this may be in part down to the fact that the horn section are not utilised as much as usual on this album. Their horn section generally gives the band a great injection of life and excitement, but with their horn section for the most part missing entirely in the 'In With The Out Crowd' album; the music just doesn't sound as good. Instead of forefronting the horn section, they have tried to implement guitars where horns would usually be, something I just can't get to grips with when listening to the album. To listen to, it is quite obviously the same band; just a less impressive version.
Although a lot of the album is quite frustratingly mediocre, there are a few tracks here that are worthy of a mention. 'Fall Apart' for example I feel is quite a powerful track and is one that I do quite enjoy. It is far from being Less Than Jake at their best and is really rather repetitive, however it is vaguely enjoyable and the guitars sound decent and the drumming is excellent as ever. 'The Rest Of My Life' is another of the tracks that stands out strongly to me. It is upbeat and fun, but even still there is something lacking about it due to the absence of the horn section. It does however have a brilliant chorus and this alone is something which I feel makes the track sound mightily impressive.
I really don't enjoy criticising this album; Less Than Jake are one of my favourite bands and it is therefore extremely painful for me not to wholly enjoy this album but the truth is that a lot of it just isn't very good. Many of the tracks are just lacking in the usual wow-factor that the band possess and therefore make for quite disappointing and unenthralling listening. There are of course a couple of promising moments during the albums forty minute duration, but this is just not enough in my opinion. Less Than Jake used to make the most amazing of Ska Punk music, and yet with 'In With The Out Crowd' they don't seem to show that at all. Their generally excellent Ska Punk sound has been replaced here with music where the Ska element has in the main been removed. I would not recommend this album from the band, but would instead insist you listen to some of their earlier albums which in my opinion are a whole lot better than this. 'In With The Out Crowd' does this great band no justice whatsoever and what exactly the band were thinking when they recorded this album I just don't know. It's not a bad album by most bands standards, but having released such fantastic albums in the past Less Than Jake had a lot to live up to with with this release and just didn't quite manage it.
Advantages: Another LTJ Album Disadvantages: Not as good as before
...albums, not really much ska in it, well other than track 3 which is a lovely little ska tune.
Dont think that it that good to be fair, but it might be a bit of a bias opinion because the CD I was listening too was scratched so I did not get the full listening pleasure.
I'd recommend it to all those who follow Less Than Jake, and too all those who listen to terible terible pop "music". I'm kind of hoping that the CD will grow on me, and if it does ...

Advantages: some great tracks Disadvantages: None for me
I was introduced to these guys not so long ago by a friend and this is the first album I heard from them. It has some quality tracks and some amazing lyrics.
My favourite track on here is Rest Of My Life, it has quite a simple melody (which isn't a bad thing) and amazing lyrics such as 'The emptiness starts to drown the quiet corners of this town' and 'Every second that goes by I'm screaming out for a second try'. Close second is Overrated because ... ...of which is 'Everybody's so afraid to be different, please excuse me now if I don't get it'. This reflects the title of the album, 'In With The Out Crowd' and the message, 'Don't follow the crowd'. These are the best tracks on the album but none of the others are bad songs. Less Than Jake are an incredibly talented band and I can't really compare them to anyone else (I'm not saying they're completely unique though). If you want to get an idea of ...

Advantages: Cheerful, catchy, clear non-stupid lyrics. Disadvantages: Most tracks are not ska in the slightest.
...hears them, as well as in a vocal range easy enough for the majority to sing along to. There are also several opportunities to pretend to know the lyrics 'waaahh ohhhhhhh'.
The tracks are still pretty fast, as is typical for a ska band, but the tunes are now caught in the guitars, rather than the brass. However the last track 'P.S Shock The World' seems to be Less Than Jake returning to their ska roots.
For the hardcore ska-only fan, this Less ...

Advantages: Fresh, Gainseville rock city Disadvantages: Seems incomplete, short
"Borders and Boundaries" is a good release by LessThanJake. Better than "In with the outcrowd" but trailing behind "Losing streak" this is a prettty average album for the Gainseville ska-punks. It is 40:29 of enjoyable music.

The highlight of the album has to be the single "Gainseville rock city" which is still one of my favourite LessthanJake songs of all time. Then again, there isn't one song on this album that i dislikle. Each one has it's reasons to be liked and some ...
Advantages: Some excellent 'anthems' from Gainesville's Ska Punk's Disadvantages: Horn section is not as prevalent as with previous albums
date, the only album from LessThanJake that I have not enjoyed is their 'In With The OutCrowd' album which was released in 2006, a weak album which warrants no place in my CD collection. Whether or not the band can come back from this with a strong follow up album this year remains to be seen, however I for one will be wholeheartedly hoping that the band can return to form. 'Anthem' is a remarkably strong album which more than proves that the band can write incredible music, something which they show throughout all of their first seven albums before their mishap in 2006. 'Anthem' is an album which I would recommend to all, an excellent album which although perhaps does not portray the band at their best, it is certainly not far from it. The popularity of LessThanJake continues to sustain and even despite the fact that Ska Punk is no ...
Advantages: Great melodies, catchy lyrics Disadvantages: none!
This is a fantastic early Less then Jake album, and a must-have for all LessThanJake Fans. Its also a great introduction to the band for all those who like punk/ska music.
LessthanJake's first release was Pezcore on Dill records in 1994. Following that was Losers, Kings and Things we don't understand in 1995. Losing Streak was originally released in 1996 on Capitol Records, and Hello Rockview followed two years later. They were re-released as a double album in 2000. Later full length albums by the band are Borders and Boundaries (2000), Anthem (2003) and In with the outcrowd (2006).
Hello Rockview is more 'mainstream' LessThanJake, being classic punky ska, while songs on Losing Streak put heavier emphasis on a ska style horn section. The fact that its almost a 'buy one get one free' with two full length albums (31 tracks ...

Album Notes
After having been known as a punk-ska outfit for most of the 1990s, by the advent of 2006's IN WITH THE OUT CROWD Less Than Jake had long been chafing at the genre's restrictions. This cohesive set uses the band's ska roots as the jumping-off point for a series of forays into contemporary pop, notably on the polished "In-Dependence Day" and the big-country rock of "The Rest of My Life." Lyrically, a sense of disillusionment with the outside world hangs over the album, most apparently on songs like "Soundtrack of My Life" and "Overrated"; but on the perfectly formed, breakneck "Mostly Memories," post-teen angst and the band's punky musical energy combine in a perfect storm of dynamic pop.
