John Kerry during the 2004 US Election campaign, In Your Honour could easily have fallen flat, a casualty of George W Bushs triumphant return to the Whitehouse. That it isnt is thanks to Grohls garrulous enthusiasm and skill for songs that vibrate with Everyman optimism after all, who else in rock could snarl a line like "Its a shame we have to die my dear/ No-ones getting out of here alive" ("DOA") and still sound like theyre beaming from ear to ear? Sprawling across two CDs one rock, one acoustic In Your Honour perhaps suffers from the overarching ambitions common to the double album format: despite gems like "Hell" and "The Last Song", the first disc is a little one-paced to hold your attention to the end. The acoustic disc, however, is a surprisingly eclectic success. "Friend Of A Friend", written back in 1992 while Grohl was still drumming in Nirvana, broods with a dark intensity, while the presence of guests Led Zeppelins John Paul Jones and chanteuse Norah Jones who duets with Grohl on gently intriguing lounge-jazz number "Virginia Moon" - lend In Your Honour an intriguing extra dimension. --Louis Pattison

Advantages: 20 tracks, 2 discs of music, and a number of excellent little numbers. Disadvantages: The album is not great, the excellence of the music is inconsistent.
...Fighters. The album was released in 2005 and consists of twenty tracks spread over two discs of music. The fact that you get over an hour and twenty minutes of music here is really rather excellent; the music that you get isn't always great, you definitely get a lot of it though. £5.47 is the current price at Amazon; fantastic value for money? I think so.
The album is packed full of hard hitting guitar riffs, excellent drum work, and the fantastic ... ...commercial rock songs I've heard in recent years; it possesses the most wonderful of choruses and always when I hear this track I smile.
Tracks such as 'DOA', 'Resolve', and 'Friend of a Friend' are others that stand out from this album for various different reasons. 'Resolve' and 'DOA' are a further two hard hitting rock songs, 'Friend of a Friend' however is an acoustic track that is performed alone by Dave Grohl. The song was actually written ...

Advantages: Couple of strong tracks Disadvantages: Lots of flab
...song is supposed to mean. In order to avoid all that ponsing around I chose this CD to review from my collection as none of the above hurdles apply. You can’t get more basic than grunge metal. Two disc CDs are always dodgy affairs as few bands out there are capable of writing 20-30 good songs in such a short time, which the Fooeys have comfortably fallen short on here. One whole disc of accompanying acoustic tracks is wearing stuff, almost to the ... ...teeing up the big hit in ‘Best of You’. This track is a cracker, summing up all those frustrations toward people that can’t help bullying others from a position of power, trying to take away your passions in life. You can imagine slamming their head into the pavement to the drum beat. DOA (dead on arrival if you ever wondered) is another strong track with a real tempo, again melodic and bassy. Metal lyrics must rhyme so they are limited, and so I ...

In YOUR Honour Review ofIn Your Honour - Foo Fightersby

Advantages: Every song has it's good parts, most are all amazing. Disadvantages: Segregation of fast and slow is questionable
...separated because if you are in the mood for some hardcore rockin' you are hardly going to want to listen to a song like 'Razor' for example. The first album is more something which you would want to listen to with a large group of friends, and the other is more something for when your on your own, or with a couple of people.
As usual, they start with an absolutely amazing track, 'In Your Honour', this makes an absolutely brilliant start to the ... ...where there is a pause in the middle of the song, and then D.G's vocals come back in. With some artists, pauses are just rubbish, but the foo's have the amount of drama in their songs to pull this off flawlessly. Love it, one of the best songs on the album!
What comes next is an absolute plethora of amazing songs that will take your breath away, after you've listened to them a few times, as some of them take a bit of getting used to. The album has ...

Advantages: Great acoustic album, A lot of it rocks Disadvantages: Material spread a little thin over two cd's
...out from behind the drums in Nirvana he has never looked back and delivered countless rock tunes that are of the highest quality.
The 1995 self-titled debut was a very rough affair, featuring some fine grunge anthems. It was dirty, stripped down and frankly great. Since then the sound of the band has evolved, become more polished and more accessible to all. So the announcement that the latest album would be a double affair was met with great excitement. ... ...Honour' is really two albums in one. The first disc is a rockier affair while the second disc follows an acoustic path. The results are pretty good but not perfect.
So let's address the 'rock album' to start off with.
Things kick off with the title track from the album. A slow build on the intro soon gives way to Grohl's rasping vocals. It set's up the record with its heavy riffs and generally rocks although lyrically there isn't that much to it.

Advantages: pefect foo fighters album Disadvantages: disc 2.
...Dave Grohl formed Foo Fighters in 1995 he knew these were going to be a great band.
We have all the Foo Fighters albums ("Foo Fighters" The colour and the shape" "There is nothing left to loose" "One by one" "In your honour" and "skin and bones")
And even a few live DVD's but we had never seen them play live so when the 'In your honour' album came out and I knew they were touring, I thought tickets to see them would be the best Christmas present ... ...a banner saying "Foo Fighters In Your Honour" runs across the middle and what looks like a big bison is pictured alone at the top of the cover. In side are the lyrics to only one song 'In Your Honour'

Advantages: Quite catchy tracks, something for everyone some good guitar riffs etc. Disadvantages: Some tracks not memorable, the mix of track types may make it seem like they lack real direction
...it. I don't tend to be keen on very hardcore rock but if it gives an idea of similar music, I also quite like some music by Red Hot Chilli Peppers (By The Way & Stadium Arcadium), FooFighters (InYourHonour CD1 is brilliant in my opinion!) and Bon Jovi (Have A Nice Day).
I hope this review helps you judge whether you might quite enjoy this album or not, thanks for any and all r/r/c's. This review is also be posted on Dooyoo UK under the same username....

Advantages: Keidis' vocals. Fruciante/Flea partnership. Chad Smith's drumming. Disadvantages: Maybe stretched things out a little too much.
...It's hard to pinpoint exactly what LA's Red Hot Chili Peppers are trying to achieve with their 9th studio album, the gloriously expansive "Stadium Arcadium". For a band that have been away from the limelight since 2002's hugely successful "By The Way" album - apparently 1 in every 34 Britons own a copy - the release of a double disc, 28-track comeback is potentially a huge risk for the band (made even moreso by Anthony Keidis' revelation that the idea was originally for a 3-disc package spanning 18 months of release time).
In fact, Anthony Keidis and Co could do far worse than look at the FooFighters ambitious double album of 2005, "InYourHonour". Dave Grohl's push to see his band compete for double album awards with The Who, saw the former Nirvana stickman do nothing other than run square into a brick wall - creatively, the album...

Advantages: 15 Magnificent tracks on one album Disadvantages: None
...given a new working with one of the most sing-able choruses in their portfolio. A short piano solo introduces a typical FooFighters powerful chorus and ending.
6. Next year
Originally from 'There is nothing left to lose' - 1999
An upbeat 'happy' song, one to dance around to.
7. Another round
Originally from 'Inyourhonour' - 2005
I love this song - it's a simple song with a very catchy rhythm, restoring the emotional theme from the first few tracks on the CD. The use of harmonica heightens the sensations linking choruses.
8. Big me
Originally from 'FooFighters' - 1995
Plenty of piano and female backing vocals, a lovely combination.
9. Cold day in the sun
Originally from 'Inyourhonour' - 2005
Traditionally sung by Drummer, Taylor Hawkins - this song is very upbeat and lively. Another song to get...
