Many people will tell you that the Foo Fighters are just the offspring of Nirvana and that Dave Grohl is trying too hard. I think that this album proves that those people need to look outside the box.
Unlike their previous albums which, some of the tracks were similar to those of Nirvana, this is completely original and different media. All the tracks have a certain quality that depicts them as The Foo Fighters songs and not as 'The Nirvana Outcast's' songs to put it bluntly.
Tracks like 'DOA', 'Hell' and 'The Sign' will have you coming back for more with their heavy rock attitude and for when you need to chill, there is the 'Acoustic' disc with the softer tracks that, although lacking the screech of the guitar and the pounding of the drums still has an authentic feel to it.
I prefer the non acoustic album myself and I can see that there are bound to be some hits that will stick around for a long time as 'Everlong', 'Monkey Wrench' and 'Learn to Fly' have done. I have been waiting for this album for some time and I can tell that anyone would like it due to the mix in tracks.
I think it's a fantastic album, the one that finally takes the Foos out of the Nirvana 'shadow' that's been over them since 94 - much prefer the rock disc over the acoustic, although both have their moments. Alex

Advantages: Quite catchy tracks, something for everyone some good guitar riffs etc. Disadvantages: Some tracks not memorable, the mix of track types may make it seem like they lack real direction
