The new Gumbo series consists of traditional music from all over the globe, played and ... more
arranged in its original style: specially produced and recorded for this label, the 20 tracks of Music of India are all arranged and played by the versatile Jonathan Mayer, backed by Esmail Sheikh on a second sitar. A typical evening raga can last for 30 minutes, and some would say that only at that leisurely length can its magic really work, but Mayer's purpose is different: what he wants to do is give a taster of the riches to be found in this huge continent. If the resultant ecstasies are truncated, and if they don't fly anywhere near as high as those of Ravi Shankar and his friends, they still give an authentic whiff. And for a non-Indian, Mayer plays extremely well: the devotion with which Westerners study Indian instruments is just one more tribute to their uncanny power. --Michael Church

Advantages: Relaxing story telling music with a bit of heart Disadvantages: Too boring
OK album, with a nice mix of different artist most of which i have never hear of before. As you can probably tell I'm not usually into this kind of music but being someone always looking to expand my musical horizons, I thought i would give it a go but was not too impressed.

Some of the other tracks were almost up to this standard but were too boring and didn't catch my attention. ...
Music and Lyrcis; Not only a quality film but an even better soundtrack.
Including songs created for the film performed by both Hugh Grant (who actually has a great singing voice!) and also Drew Barrymore who adds to the fun of the album.
This album was created in order to demonstrate the songs from the hit film. The songs are upbeat, happy and just damn good fun. A classic example would be the song 'Pop! Goes my heart' if you've seen the film then listening to this soundtrack will without doubt make you want to shake that pop hip.
Just like most of other of Grant's films this is indeed a romantic comedy however more so comedy. This is emphasised in some of the lyrics expressed. Such as from 'Don't write me off just yet', 'Now I need you; despite the fact that you've killed all my plants.'
The songs on this album are fun ...
