I previously reviewed Fall Out Boy's last album 'From Under The Cork Tree' but the band have even come a long way since then. At that time they were just getting famous for the song 'Sugar We're Going Down' but now since getting a bit more mainstream and more recognised there aren't really many people who would not know what I mean if I were to say Fall Out Boy. The band from Chicago, started off so unknown touring in a van to get to where they are today.
The members for those who don't know are Patrick Stump (vocals and guitar), Pete Wentz (songwriter and bassist), Joe Trohman (guitarist) and Andy Hurley (drums). The four are a band that I have now liked for quite a while and I have followed them through their career and am glad they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. It's either a love or hate thing with this band, many like me do like them and some are just getting to know them still where as some people liked them at the start and now fail to continue following them because of their newly found mainstream status.
This is now the band's fourth album which is a pretty successful number to reach and they still do not look like they are going anywhere in a hurry. The first album they released was 'Evening Out With Your Girlfriend' which had a more rough sound and after this album they got Andy in to do the drums as they had a member change. Then the next album 'Take This To Your Grave' which is still my personal favourite had a lot of decent tracks and
potential singles. 'From Under The Cork Tree' had them lose their edge a bit as the singles 'Dance Dance' and 'A Little Less Sixteen Candles' could be considered pop but with the current album 'Infinity On High' they still have gone for a bit of a pop sound but have tried to revert back to some heavier sounds in a few tracks, it's more of an experimental album.

1. THRILLER: This is a great introductory song, as Pete has always been a big fan of Jay Z he got him to do the talking bit at the start as a presenting line. The guitar plays softly in the background then I love how it shocks the listener and kicks in. The guitar is great then the sharp vocals break in nicely. As always Patrick's voice is great, very strong and distinct. The rhythm is catchy and I think it's an instantly likeable song. This to me seems like a song for the fans it's about how there are the ones who have stuck by them, read the journal updates and don't just see them as a phase. It's how the media can make them popular at once and then people lose interest but the dedicated true fans are always there.
3. THIS AIN'T A SCENE: This was the first single of the new album and it is very unlike anything they have ever done before as it is a definite pop song. I was unsure about this album when I first listened but of course being a Fall Out Boy song and thanks to radio play I was soon bobbing my head along to it's catchy pace. The video for this song is very unusual it has a lot of celebrity appearances and it seems to continue on from the 'Dance Dance' video. It plays on a lot of jokes the band have, it's all about how the media over hyping things and it is quite funny. Looking at the song lyrics like "fitting you with weapons in the form of words" and "don't really care which side wins as long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in" all indicate this song is a note to the press saying that they don't care what stories they write about them because as long as the fans are still there to see the band play is all that matters.
4.I'M LIKE A LAWYER: This is one of the first songs off this album I grew to really like the reason being is that the vocals are sang so well that it really stood out to me. It is a sort of ballad but that doesn't make it boring and it is a nice one. This song is difficult to interpret the meaning of it seems it is written to someone and it seems to be about being famous but not any better off because they still feel alone. The music isn't the strongest point of this song as like I said the singing takes over. The music is still in a rhythm which fits in well and it works great this song. Don't know if it is strong enough for a future single but still one of my favourite tracks.
7.THNKS FR TH MMRS: This is the second single to be released from this album and I am glad they chose this because again on first listen this was definitely one of the tracks to me that stood out and I had a funny feeling it would be released. I love how it starts it has an eerie sound to it, and Patrick's sings with a very deep voice and it has a theatrical feel to it. The video is very stage like at the start and then it has many other things going on and also has chimpanzees in it very odd. The lyrics suggest that this song is about a past lover or jealousy in a relationship and wanting someone but not being able to get them anymore, a past relationship but the person having moved on and it no longer being a possibility, so it's just a memory now.
8. DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW WHO I AM: Another catchy song off the album that I grew to like after a few listens. It has a very pop sound to it and could be a potential single, who knows? It has a very catchy rhythm to the song and the guitars are great in this, very strong. Singing great here, follows the guitar pace well and the high notes are all reached well. The chorus is one that will stick and you'll like this song in no time.
I am just going through a few tracks as I don't want to bore anyone by listing off every song. This album is definitely a catchy and fun one, if not as rock as some would like. If you like most of the band's latest singles you will love this album, if you preferred their earlier music you could give this a try but it might be too poppy for you. If you hate the band then steer clear altogether.
The album artwork is interesting on this; it was designed by a fan as they ran a competition. It's a very youthful cover like a children's bedroom then there is an animal in the middle of the room which is either a sheep with wings or a unicorn I'm unsure. I like how the band's name and title stands out like a star in the sky as it is bright like the moon.
The album track listing I have given is of the American album so you might not get track 8 but do try and download it somewhere as it is great. This album can be bought on http://www.amazon.co.uk for £7.97 or in all good music stores.
