Ok so after a few months of waiting, anticipating great things from this album, i finally got my hands on a copy! I particularly enjoyed Fall out boy's previous album 'From Under the Cork Tree' and couldn't wait to see how this one would follow on from it.
Well i was a bit shocked at first, since the sound of this album is distinctly different, but at the same time it was awesome!
I've always been a fan of FOB's pop-punk sound and think that their lyrics are very powerful, though possibly a little intimate for some. So this album wasn't quite what i expected, but in other ways it's better!
Track Listing:
THRILLER - feat. Jay-Z this track has an excellent ring to it and makes you want to sing along!
THE TAKE OVER, THE BREAKS OVER - one of my favorite tracks from this album, it has quite a funky rhythm to it and puts you in a fully energetic mood!
THIS AIN'T A SCENE, IT'S AN ARMS RACE - The first single to be released from this new album, showing a different side to FOB including a choir and certainly a bit of funk.
I'M LIKE A LAWYER WITH THE WAY I'M ALWAYS TRYING TO GET YOU OFF (ME AND YOU) - This track takes me back to the old FOB days when song names were almost a paragraph long! this song has a particular 'pop' kind of sound to it and a very jumpy rhythm.
HUM HALLELUJAH - I really like this song, it's amazing the way FOB have managed to mix their trademark punk sound with the delicacy of a gospel choir - it actually works!
GOLDEN - not a particularly FOB-ish track but certainly original, this track features Patrick Stump's quieter, and somewhat sweeter tones alongside a soothing piano accompaniment. Generally a nice song.
THNKS FR TH MMRS - The most recent track to be released from this album, this song has a particularly engaging chorus that you just can't help singing along to! i can't believe it didn't get in to the top ten in the charts!
DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I THINK I AM? - This song relates back to the 'old' fall out boy where they were just generally rocking. It has a great sound and is certain to get stuck in your head!
THE (AFTER) LIFE OF THE PARTY - Possibly the only track on the album that i don't really enjoy listening to. The pace is very slow and it just doesn't scream excitement to me.
THE CARPAL TUNNEL OF LOVE - not much to say about this really, just a typical FOB song! amazing guitar sound and crazy lyrics!
BANG THE DOLDRUMS - I love this song! it just has a FOB ring to it, and makes you want to sing along. Though in true FOB style, you have to work out the lyrics first, as its difficult to understand sometimes.
FAME<INFAMY - Great song, with an amazing punk sound to it, this is another that will make you sing along!
YOU'RE CRASHING BUT YOU'RE NO WAVE - I think the lyrics in this song are excellent, it highlights how the legal system is corrupt and anyone can be bought over - Pete Wentz is a lyrical genius!
I'VE GOT ALL THIS RINGING IN MY EARS AND NONE ON MY FINGERS - Another long titled song, this goes back to the funky sound that this album has achieved and doesn't disappoint! Since I'm a big fan of guitar, i love the solos in between chorus and verse!
G.I.N.A.S.F.S (BONUS TRACK) - This song isn't quite as catchy as some of the others on this album but will definitely keep you entertained as you listen to it. I love the sound of the over-driven guitars against Patrick's amazing voice!
Against their previous album i would say i like this one maybe a tiny bit more, it's hard to compare them as they're so different. Fall out Boy have definitely changed a lot since writing 'From Under the Cork Tree' but i wouldn't say its for better or for worse. All of the band members have definitely improved a lot since recording previous albums, and i love the new sound that they're creating.
Overall an excellent album! enjoy!
