I thought the Kooks had vanished off the face of the earth. You get some really good bands that come on the scene and then after a couple of months and one album, you never seem to hear them ever again...thats what I thought had happened with the Kooks which disappointed me a little because I thought that their first album Inside In Inside Out was one of the best albums that I had bought in the year that it was released. I'm surprised that it didn't get worn out and still remains in my car with the others that I listen to on a more regular basis.
The Kooks from Brighton are an Indie Rock band and were established in 2004. Following the release of their first track, Naive, off the album, they had a succession of hits from their debut album during 2006, and were one of the most likeable bands of the year.
As a rule when you get an album and its not a greatest hits compilation, a lot of the tracks that are on the album, you more than likely have not heard before and probably press skip when listening to it. With this album, its a different case. Not on any occasion have I ever got bored of any the tracks that are on it and they have produced a cracking debit album which will continue to be one of my favourite's.
Naive, being there debut single, and also the track that made me so into the band had got to be my favourite track on the album. With the acoustic backing and their Sussex accent, at the particular time that it was released it was quite different to the style that other bands within this genre were releasing. THe track itself spent a long time in the charts and after its release, the album spent over half the year in the top 20 album charts making them one of the biggest new successes of the year.
The album has a good feeling to it, as with some Indie Rock bands, the subject matter of the song and lyrics can sometimes be depressing however with the Kooks, all the tracks have a nice feel good approach which makes the album even more worthwhile to listen to.
- Seaside - See The World - Sofa Song - Eddies Gun - Ooh La - YOu Don't Love Me - She Moves in Her Own Way - Matchbox - Naive - I Want You - If Only - Jackie Big Tits - Time Awaits - Got No Love
One of the songs that they didn't release that I feel should have been one that they released has got to be I Want You. This track has a different element to it and is more like a indie ballad. The lyrics are great and very meaningful. For young lads, they are extremely talented as some of these tracks were written when they were just 16 years of age. I Want You would have been a great hit.
ALthough I have not purchased the new album yet, it is on my list to buy and I can't wait. Inside In / Inside Out is a great album, if they have come up with an album better than that then it would be superb.

Advantages: Upbeat, tuneful rough garage hippie sound. Some strong songs on the album. Disadvantages: They arent really the sort of band that make massive musical waves, although they are charming.
