The first album from the Brighton boys doesn't disappoint, Rock/pop at its best. Its an album Packed with great rock songs and catchy pop undertones.
The album starts with a song titles seaside which is a slow melodic number that in no way shape or form sets the tone for the album however it shows how raw and full of emotion lead singer Luke Prichard's voice can be. Then starts the song 'See the world' which in complete contrast to Seaside has thunderous guitars and brilliant energy. The transition from 'seaside' to 'See the world' is my favourite part of the album. The two songs almost feel as one despite how very different they are. Third song on the album is 'Sofa song' which has a nice melody backed by guitar and is one of the slower numbers, however it is defiantly not a filler and deserving of being on the album. Fourth song is the infectious 'Ooh La' I love this song - especially the first verse 'In their eyes is the place that you finally discovered that you love it here, you've got to stay' the Kooks tell a story with each of their songs. Song five is 'You Don't Love Me' chugs along at a typically breakneck pace set by the albums previous songs, only pausing for breath once it grinds to a halt at around two and a half minutes, leaving the song feeling short but wanting you to play it again. Persistent, bouncy guitars, enthusiastic singing is what this song provides. Song 6 'She Moves In Her Own Way' no matter the mood I love this song, makes me want to dance every time. This particular track defiantly has a summer vibe to it, vie found it best listened to in your car on a hot day with the windows down. Song 7 'Matchbox' 'my Juliet!! I never betray you my love…' is such an outstanding line in this song, sung yet again with a bucket and half of emotion, the song bounces around with lyrical genius and yet again is one of my favourites. Song 8 'Naïve' the song that really got them noticed, yet again you can hear the emotion in Prichard's voice as he sings with a hint of enthusiasm. The chorus so easy on the ear you'll be forced to sing along to it, another summer song Prichard's voice is such that you are compelled to listen. Song 9 'I Want You Back' is a complete rock song that is different from others on the album he sings with more anger and has a slight sound of desperation at points creating a very tuneful song. Song 10 'If Only' a fast paced guitar filled number with crashing symbols and a home grown feel. Luke's unique voice fills the song with his quirkiness, not one of my favourites but I can happily listen to it. Song 11 'Jackie Big Tits' I really don't like this song, it does not have the same energy and enthusiasm as the other songs, its sounds like it was recorded after a drunken night out and the result is not good, with slurry words and screeching its not one of their best efforts. Song 12 'Time Awaits' can be hugely misunderstood it's a slightly darker vibe from the band, with heavier guitars and a deeper and slightly sinister singing voice it's the complete opposite to opening track 'seaside'. Song 13 'Got No Love' is another one I don't like, it feels like it is a demo that has been thrown on the album for filler sake. A slow meaningless song that doesn't make full use of the bands playability or likes amazing voice.
Despite having 13 tracks the album is fairly short with most songs ending after the 2 and a half minute mark, the songs leave you wanting more but the album feels complete by the end, every song tells a story even 'Jackie big tits' if you like 'indie' music and rock/pop then you will love this album, and if you don't I still recommend getting this album as my review is nothing compared to hearing the album itself!

Advantages: Upbeat, tuneful rough garage hippie sound. Some strong songs on the album. Disadvantages: They arent really the sort of band that make massive musical waves, although they are charming.
