I would like to say that when I introduced Green Day to the unsuspecting British public after finding an import of "Dookie" in my local music shop (way back in about 1994 I think it was), I thought I was on to something. And I was - word spread round the disaffected grunge generation that inhabited Buckinghamshire grammar schools and I finally removed that sense of Nivarna dispondancy (however I soon learnt I should never use such long pretentious words when at gigs).
When Insomniac came out everyone was a Green Day fan - I take credit for that - I played "Dookie" everywhere and told Radio 1 to take note - they did.
What has this got to do with 'Insomniac' then - If you want a review then this is all you need. Insomniac does seem slightly rushed. What is worse is that it wasn't.
If you like Green Day you will like this album, it is prefectly good. The first 6 tracks are great typical Green Day loud punk songs, except Track 4 "Geek Stink Breath" (the 1st single) is a bit dull.
The album does tail off after that. I thought it might be just me, so I have read other reviews and I have changed my mind a little from my opinion of the album as a whole. I think if you listened to one track on its own you would think the album would be great, but if you listen to the entire album in one sitting it gets a little repetitive. 'Brain Stew' is a nice distraction, but that is it.
If you like Green Day you will buy this anyway, "Pride" is a greast little track, "86" I think is better live - buy the single "Minority" for this.
For those who want to sample old Green Day get "Dookie" or new Green Day get "Warning", but I would only buy 'Insomniac' when you have decided if you like them in the first place.

I'm sorry for the low rating, but I found your review very difficult to follow. It reads as if you revised it several times, and some of the sentences don't make sense any more. If you improved the structure of the review, I'd be happy to re-rate.
