Songs of Solitude!
Review of Solitude Standing - Suzanne Vega by  tange

Advantages: Lyrically brilliant with some really good tracks.
Disadvantages: A couple of weaker links.

...I've been a fan of Suzanne Vega since I first heard her haunting voice on the radio in the late 1980s. I didn't know who she was and asked around to find out what the song I had heard was called and who the singer was. I discovered the song was called Luka and the artist was Suzanne Vega. A quick trip to Hudsons later and I was the proud owner of a cassette album (remember those?) called Solitude Standing. Time travel forwards from 1987 to 2005 and you see me with several Suzanne Vega albums (now on CD) and I'm still listening to Solitude Standing even now ~ a true test of music standing the test of time! ~~~THE SINGER. For those who don't know, Suzanne Nadine Vega was born in Santa Monica, California back in July 1959. Her family moved to Spanish Harlem in New York in 1961 (when her mother married Ed Vega). Suzanne grew up... Read review

End Has A Start, An [Digipak] - Editors
Review of End Has A Start, An (Limited Edition) [Digipak] - Editors by  clickysteve

Advantages: Not overlong at 10 tracks, gets better with each listen.
Disadvantages: Opening track not the strongest.

...All the best records take a few listens (at least) to reveal their true nature. On first play this sounded like a typical 2nd album - longer tracks, less up-tempo. A month on this has to be my favourite CD of 2007. Nearly all the 10 tracks have resolved into fantastic, atmospheric (and not always gloomy!) tales of urban life and escape. Great tunes underpin the songs, with the now-trademark steepling guitar riffs standing out most in the choruses. Some not unwelcome echos of The Smiths are to be found in the lyrics, most obviously in the title track, but tracks like Weight of the World and Escape The Nest are really uplifting, the latter also containing the finest moments on the album with its soaring, thrilling chorus. What a live track that promises to be... Recommended! Ok then, what about the digipak? Well if you like a glossy... Read review

LP earned a second listen of a dissapointing album
Review of Minutes To Midnight (Limited Edition/Parental Advisory) [Digipak] [PA] - Linkin Park by  s3aitken

Advantages: What I've Done, good display of musical skills and depth in lyrics
Disadvantages: changed their sound

...'t as bad as I first thought. The lyrics still embody depth, what I've done is amazing, leave out all the rest, shadow of the day, no more sorrow and the little things give you away are all very good if you let them grow on you. However wake, hands held high and bleed it out are very poor, the swearing is pointless as it doesn't help emphasize any emotion at all. Overall the album doesn't compare to the previous yet its still a good album on the whole and I'm glad I gave it a second chance.... Read review
