Advantages: fantastic, melodic metal that kicks rear end Disadvantages: none. well, possibly Chuck Mosely.
? to FaithNoMore. A stereotype ?credible? band, they managed to have an enormous cult following and just a smattering of chart success- just enough to pay for the next two albums, so to speak. If you read the blurb in the CD case, there?s one of those emetic ?president-of-the-fan-club? outpourings about the full history of the band musically, and how marvellous they were, and they were indeed, often marvellous.
Usually this is the point at which you start talking about the musical direction of the band, but being FaithNoMore, that?s a bit flipping difficult! If you know them, you?ll know why, if you don?t, I realise that?s not helpful, but hopefully my little run down of the best of the Best Of should redress that?
In order to give you a balanced taster of the album, I?ve chosen seven out of the nineteen tracks, my ...
Advantages: Mainly great songs Disadvantages: A few bad ones and it's the last album!
The oh so modestly named ‘Album of the Year’ ended up being FaithNoMore’s final release. A year after the albums release in 1997 the band unexpectedly called it a day and that was that. Singer Mike Patton started a record label, formed Fantômas and did his duties as part of Mr Bungle as they pulled their finger out and finally recorded a third album. Keyboard player Roddy Bottum moved to vocals and guitar in his own band, Imperial Teen (A bit dull I’m afraid!). Bass man Billy Gould started a record label and formed a Brazilian death metal band (As you do). Drummer Mike Bordin worked as a session drummer for artists ranging from Ozzy Osborn to Korn. Finally, no one seems quite sure what happened to Jon Hudson, the last in a long line of FaithNoMore guitarists.
But would this show in the album? Would there be ...
Advantages: The Original Script for Nu-Metal Disadvantages: Edge of the World
With hardly a bar of introduction, FaithNoMore?s ?The Real Thing? leaps from your sound system like a demented jackal; ?From Out Of Nowhere? is a blistering opener that will knock you backwards and leave you gasping for more. Jim Martin?s aggressive riffs and Mike Patton?s equally combative vocals over Bill Gould?s Maidenesque bass and Mike Bourdin?s crashing tub-thumping are a fearsome combination alright. At the height of the Hill-Schumacher animosity, the BBC started trailing its Grand Prix coverage with the track? ?I know you see me ? our eyes interlock/ You come from out of nowhere/ My glance turns to a stare?. Eyebrows at dawn, anyone?
But this 1989 release is much more than raw aggression at full volume. The first bars of the imaginatively titled ?Zombie Eaters? should dispel any lingering doubts; synthesised string ...

Album Notes
Faith No More: Chuck Mosley (vocals); Jim Martin (guitar, background vocals); Roddy Bottum (keyboards, background vocals); Bill Gould (bass, background vocals); Mike Bordin (drums, conga, background vocals). Producers: Steve Berlin, Matt Wallace, Faith No More. Recorded at Studio D, Sausalito, California. After Faith No More's debut WE CARE A LOT created a buzz for the band and the hard work on that album paid off by getting signed to Slash/London, the group's major-label debut, 1987's INTRODUCE YOURSELF, put the proof in the pudding. Both the songwriting and playing are focused this time around, as the band continues to enhance a number of musical styles. The album contains a re-recorded version of the band's early anthem "We Care a Lot" (Faith No More's first MTV video), as well as the barnstorming title track. Other highlights included the melodic "Anne's Song," as well as "Faster Disco," "Chinese Arithmetic," and the brutal "The Crab Song." The band's star was obviously rising with this album even despite tensions between singer Chuck Mosely and the rest of the band, which boiled over after the tour was completed, resulting in Mosely's departure shortly thereafter.
