Advantages: Its nice to see Fatboy slim going back to his roots again Disadvantages: Like any album some of the tracks just seem like space fillers
...Fatboy Slim was great in the late 90's with his dance tracks and samples and silly loops, but that was then. Even the House music age is over, and Norman Cook has recognized this and has put together a great new collection of just plain music. The rhymes and singing of Lateef, Damon Albarn and Fatboy-alum Bootsy Collins fit right in with the hip-hop, laid-back feel of this album. My favorites include: "Don't Let The Man Get You Down" (featuring a little old school sampling and looping), "Wonderful Night" (with Lateef on Vocals), "Mi Bebe Masoquista" (Great beat), "North West Three" (good song to just chill to, much like the entire album), and "The Journey" (again with Lateef).
This album is great for Fatboy Slim fans looking for something different and who are ready to progress with the times. If you're looking for more "Rockafeller...

Break from the Norm? Review ofPalookaville (Parental Advisory) [PA] - Fatboy Slimby
Galoo
Advantages: Guest appearances bonanza!!! Disadvantages: You'll wish it doesn't end!
...After 4 years without a new album and a couple of mind-blowing DJ sets on the beach, Fatboy Slim returns with "Palookaville" in 2004.

Mr Norman Cook has a portfolio longer than Inspector Gadget's arms: former Housemartins and Dub International band member, House/Big Beat legend under various nicknames (Mighty Dub Katz, Fatboy Slim etc...) and famous remixer who helped Cornershop shoot to fame with "Brimful of Asha".
"Palookaville" isn't the expected Dance album a lot of fans awaited. It is certainly Fatboy Slim's most personal and autobiographical one to date.
It's a very nice mixture of Rock, Pop and Electronic music.
The opening track "Don't let the man..." is probably the closest song you'll get to "vintage" Fatboy Slim. It is quite similar to "Praise you".

...reverts to the style which he started off with (and now uses most commonly in Gnarles Barkley) as he offers his soft, soulful, gospel vocals to the track rather than the raps which he did in Goodie Mob. it reallt fit in with the mood of this takes on a spiritual stance and comments on how his religious foundations have helped in creating the character which we see today in him.
I have no way of relating to anything which is said, due to it's religiously-charged nature. Howver I felt that the delivery and the way in which he relates it to other things alows non-spirtual people to understand where he is coming from, even if they didn't accept these theories as he does.
**Three Stars**
