Advantages: Well written,well produced,arguably their bast release
Disadvantages: Quite sexist,now perhaps bettered by Californication...

...Considering this album was recorded in a haunted house and where the beatles first took LSD, you might think there was a powerful influence over this album;you may well be right... This was the first album by the chilis' on the Warner Brothers record label.They were signed to EMI before,who really weren't that interested in the band.They refused to promote the band that well,they hired a particularly uptight producer (Andy Gill formerly of Gang of Four) and Mothers Milk (the album before this) featured a brand new lineup.The only remaining original members were "Flea" the bass player,and Anthony Keidis,the singer.Mothers Milk introduced the talents of John Fruciante (Guitarist) and Chad Smith (Drums).Blood Sugar Sex Magik continued with this same powerful lineup. Advantages: Some punchy enjoyable electro-pop
Disadvantages: Only McCluskey left No Paul Humphreys.

...This is one of the later OMD albums, made after the departure of founder member Paul Humphreys, which left only Andy McCluskey from the Original Duo remaining. Andy was always the main "voice" of OMD and his vocals make this recognisably OMD, although in truth this is really an Andy McCluskey album. Even with Pauls departure there is still much for OMD fans to enjoy in this Album and it produced 2 hits; The loud and brash "Sailing on the Seven Seas" and the more thoughtful "Pandora's Box". If you are a fan of OMDs experimental days this may be a bit too "poppy" for your tastes, it contains ony traces of the weird, inventive brilliance of tracks like "Dazzle Ships" or "the Angels keep on turning the wheels of the universe". It is though by no means a bad album, just a little less adventurous than the early days from over a decade... Read review
