First thing is first. The album would have been at least twice as big, had it recieved all the attention it should have got from Sony and Epic. There was about 5 music videos planned, one being feature length, such as Thriller. There was about 3 more singles planned to be released with bonus material such as the single "cry" that came out briefly in the States contained the song "Shout" a really fast flowing song which really impressed me. So the criticism for this album was due to the negligance.
Some wise words, TRY IT! You won't be dissappointed. Granted not all the tracks are for someone, but that means that everyone should like something on there, apart from those who are into really "out-there" stuff!
The album is ever so slightly long, giving the impression that he tried almost TOO hard with this album, not letting nature take its course, as he had done with his other albums. I have heard somewhere that he recorded just over 110 songs for this albums. WOW! thats one hell of a 'b' sides album just from the Invincible recordings! Similar to this all the other recordings from other albums, as well as in between albums he has done some other recordings never to pass our ears (or did they?!?!)
anywho,
onto the album - which opens up like most MJ albums being very powerful (dont be put off with the grunting at the beginning though!) Unbreakable is one hell of a song although they did overdo the sound effects towards the end. A good mix, sounding like some updated MJ stuff, but still retaining that classic groove.
Heartbreaker and Invincible, the title track (for which there was going to be a video :-( ) are another 2 good tracks although nothing extremely special. I was a little dissappointed with Invincible, as usually the title album tracks are the ones you expect to be the best this however lacked some oomph. Good filler though.
Break of Dawn and Heaven Can wait are both very similar, and by this stage in the album you feel as if everything has been grouped! tracks 1,2 and 3 are all fairly similar, and 4, and 5 are similar to each other both mid tempo bassy beated tracks. Good but should have been grouped more effectively. Put it on shuffle or something, it may sound better!
There are another 8 , yes EIGHT tracks to this album believe it or not, which is quite large for a single disc. May I point out at this point 2,000 watts which is very unique indeed. MJ sings with a deep voice, and im not talking imitated or synthesised, yes an extremely deep voice (for him), heck even for me! Apparently he went and did some extra training to make his voice go deep which is lies because if you listen to "you cant win" on the Wiz his voice goes like it again; and the Wiz was back in the 80's - check it out!
Two tracks that make me sick to the point of well being sick are the lost children and speechless. These are far to wet and flimsy and although some people go for this kind of thing, this is where my bias comes in as laughing voices of little children and a gospel singing "This is for allll the lost childrennn!!!" isnt really my kind of thing ... i would skip these if I were you.
Dont walk away doesnt really do the album justice either, its ok to listen to but I dont think that this song doesnt fit with Jacksons image at all. Its different and some people will like it but it wasnt for me, you should at least know that its not one I would skip and I dont hate it that much! I reckon he could come up with something better. I dont know why he didnt put "We've had enough on this album" what a waste of a song, thats one of his best for a long time!
Another honourable mention is the song Whatever Happens, and playing along is only Carlos Santana! It sounds really good, but did take time to grow on me, and the whole song needs to be listened to. I wish they wouldnt do that on songs you know - the little thankyou bit or laughing at the end. They should end a song and END IT. No "Thank you Carlos... Thanks man" WHATS THE POINT OF THAT!?!?! sorry. But yes, back to the original point, this is a really good track with the funk of Santana, and MJ's groove, they go hand in hand! I think this would have been one of the singles as well.
The two biggies of the album would have to be the only really famous track of the album "You rock my world" and also "Cry". These were both released on single, and YRMW shows that mike's still got the moves and the grooves, and that although he can produce new innovative stuff, he can also do all the tried and tested stuff. Good track! (SOUNDS WEAK LIVE!)
At the close of the album you have "Threatened" and "Privacy" both of which speak for themselves and I think It wouldnt be a Michael Jackson album without a of song with him whining about something... its like a version 2 of Tabloid Junkie, only problem is that song WORKED! I do like the lyric "you'll even sell your soul just to get your story sold" thats pretty cool.
Threatened reminds me of Thriller, and I think thats the impression it's trying to givebut the differences are massive - for one no creepy cool groundbreaking video ...WHY? - SONY!!! (apparently) I dont know I should stop covering for him.
But thats basically the album, like I said you should try it, you have nothing to lose and if you are steering clear of it from negative reviews - boo to you! I do reccomend it and its full of variation. Not fantastic production though as the tracks could have been better ordered. The quality is superb.
One last note, if you considering buying one find one with a coloured sleeve - at the launch of the album, there were a limited amount of Invincible albums released with a coloured sleeve and are regarded as collectables - the grey/silver one is the standard. Happy listening, and let me know if this was helpful to you and what you thought of the album!

I can't say I've hear od any of these songs! That is bad considering I used to love MJ when I was a kid. I'm not that sure it's something I'd rush out to buy though...
