Ok the first thing that annoys me about this album is the damned cover…they are meant to be The Invisible Band not the quite small band hiding in the trees…my sister says that you couldn’t have an album cover without the band on it but they could have at least masked themselves with camouflage or something well perhaps not but they could have just featured on the inside making them invisible on the outside as you look at it…STUPID!
Right now I have that out of my system I can review the CD…cracking!! Ok I agree that wont do although it is 94 words (up to the word cracking (count them if you like but I’m right!!!)) I doubt Ciao would be impressed with a CD review that didn’t actually mention the CD!!
So…I originally bought the CD for my ex-boyfriend for his 16th birthday in July then when I heard it at his house I decided I wanted it and got it for my 18th birthday a month later!!
First track…Sing…world famous, good tune everyone sings along…however
there aren’t actually that many words to it…suppose it makes it easier to learn and sing too!
“na na na na na but if you sing, sinnnnning, sing, sing, sinnnnning, for the love you bring don’t mean a thing, unless you sing, sing, sing, sinnnning”
a fair point from my sister is that it’s similar to…
“turn, turn-ern, turn-ern, turn, turn-ern, turn, and if we turn, turn, tur-ern, tur-ern, turn, then we might learn to turn, turn, turn.”
Ok ok great songs, good verses, even good verse lyrics, but come on mates what about the choruses couldn’t you be bothered to think of any lyrics? Or is it a minimal style or writing?
So far I appear to be being nasty about it but I do like it I’m just a little critical over everything! If I don’t make it as a computer programmer I wanna be a critic…I’ve got a lot of experience
These are jolly tracks [“sing” and “turn”] but there are also some miserable ones too like “dear diary” the skip button is always useful…I suppose every album has a track you aren’t keen on…maybe other people love it but I like to be bouncy, singy, dancy too.
On the plus side I do like the music, they all play their own instruments and they often have a full orchestra as backing that gives extra backing and greater depth and tone to music I believe that is called polyphonic (see you can tell I studied music from 6 years old and have a GCSE in music) I like that it irritates me that talentless muppets hit number one with songs they didn’t write themselves and can’t even play the recorder…also Travis being Scottish have been known to show their roots it Kilts and with their style… I used to quite fancy the lead singer but decided I could never date a bloke with the same name as myself [NB I AM A GIRL] the name incidentally is Francis or in my case Frances both shortened to Fran. Also on a similar theme my overall favourite band is Bon Jovi and I used to love Jon (Francis) Bon Jovi too, perhaps I just fancy myself on a subconscious level (can you tell I have an A level in Psychology) I think I’ve lost the point…
Travis that’s it…also I love Blake’s 7, the baddy character in that is called Travis but he only has one eye, not eight…now I have definitely lost the point…
The CD got it again…
Travis appear to a large audience even my dad is willing to listen to it in the car which is quite surprising…
One last criticism is that there are only 12 tracks on CD so it isn’t as good value as some that give you 18 +.
So the music…a mixed style, 4 men, a few guitars, and an orchestra sometimes even with little bells and sea-gull noises for backing.
So there that’s it I like it, it has many merits, good tunes, interesting lyrics I doubt he’d ever make it to Poet Laureate but they are nice...you know not too profound they don’t make you cry if you’ve just split up with someone you love but they may make you think briefly about it…great orchestra...no doubt bitter that they are brilliant musicians and are only featuring on a band’s CD and not for their raw talent but c’est la vie!!
Band are vaguely good looking none of them you’d lust over or have stuck all over your room but they seem pleasant boys you could take home to meet your Mummy!!
The inlay cards or covers are ok not very inspired contain all the lyrics, nice for clarifying bits you can’t quite hear, then on all the other pages just close ups of the band…again quite similar to “The man who” cover...they can get away with this twice but may be next time they’ll have to employ a graphic designer not just some bloke with a computer…
I’m bored now
