This is one of the first ops I have wrote on a album, so if there is anything I could do to make it better, anything at all. Please do not hesitate to tell me. Hope it makes a interesting read………….
You all have heard of Slipknot and I know it. It is impossible to go into town without seeing someone wearing a Slipknot hoody and more recently they have been all over are television screens. I must admit that until recently I had it in my head the slipknot were really quite cr*p, I had seen photos of them and though "what freaks" but when yesterday when my friend lent me this album it was not half as bad as I though. Although it was still very bad…………..
The band: Before I tell you all about the album I will tell you a little bit about Slipknot themselves. Slipknot music is heavy metal. In the band there are a unbelievable nine members. Three drummers, one DJ and a load of guitarists and they
all come from Iowa in America.
The Album: Well since their last album slipknot really have improved. In this album there is actual singing Aswell as plenty of screaming, which is a definite improvement on the last album! and the tracks actual seem to have a half decent beat to them. Compared to the last album the members all play the music synchronised together, and they don’t just all make as much noise as possible.
All the guitaring in the album is very good. All the guitarists are very skilled there is no doubt about it, and the way they play the guitars together makes a very unique sound. However in some parts of the album the sound of guitars does become somewhat overwhelming. The guitarists themselves could not improve as they are all very good, although they could properly improve the way in which they play together in certain parts of the album.
The vocalists are not always what I would describe as talented. I mean anyone could scream down a microphone, however the singing/screaming does fit in with the music quite well. In the track "left behind" They have a great mix of screaming and singing and however does do the singing bit has got a very good voice.
Personally I do not think that the drummers are all that skilled. In some parts the drumming is very basic. But the thing that makes up for this is the way that all the drummers play at a slightly different tempo and it makes quite a good sound, but on there own I think that the drummers are pretty useless.
The DJ in Slipknot is amazing. He is probably the most talented member in the band and next to the DJ from hed(pe) he is probably the best DJ I know of. He really does make the songs sound a lot better and I look forward to his DJ solos in certain tracks as he truly is amazing. So much so I papa roaches new album there is a entire song dedicated to him. He really is very good and if Slipknot ever split up I reckon that he could become a very famous solo DJ if he wanted.
The album starts off with a very strange intro with all these funny voices shouting "death" and laughing. It then has the first song People=shit which is Suprisingly good with some amazing guitaring drumming and Djing. After this song though the track quality drops right off and it becomes very repetitive, which really is the albums big let down. It all sounds the same! However the track quality picks up again at number eight for a song which really does not sound like slipknot and really is great! before trailing right back off again in to the oblivion of rubbish music. The consistency of the track really is very poor.
The cover of the album has a ram or goat on it(not sure which). It has a little slipknot logo ant is bright silver. Which is a bit of a pain. As when it comes to trying to read the song numbers and names on the back it is almost impossible. The inlay of the album is great! It has all the lyrics etc like a normal album does, but it is all printed out on this dodgey type of paper which has all the band members faces all over it.
Unfortunately the C.D. does not have a video, which is a shame as I really like watching music videos on my PC. But we can’t have everything can we?
I will not be listening to this album much and I feel that the shelf life of the album will be very short as it is so repetitive. However I do belive that the songs People=shit and Left behind will be quite listened to by me.
I would have to conclude that this album was better than I thought, however I fell that it was still quite a bad album. If you do not like heavy metal music steer well clear, but if you like heavy metal it is probably worth a look. I normally love heavy metal music but this album is an exeption. Personally I think you should buy Fear Factory-Obsolete instead but that’s another op……………….Thanks for reading.Edd.

Great opinion! Most people either blabber on about how much they love them (im one of them), or how much they hate them You put forward a balanced one, so i respect you for that. If you want to know more about the DJ, Sid is going solo as DJ Starscream - check it out on the internet.
